Default White Mantis Build

Just got my Chassis in today. Lightning fast shipping from BWD

I need to order a punk dig to make this crawler more complete.

Parts Rundown
-Sidewinder SCT
-CC 10A BEC
-Hobbico CS170 (operating at 6.5 volts)
-R35 Ripsaws from my Wraith Kit
-BWD Mantis/Dub chassis
-Custom battery tray
-Custom servo armor (not pictured)

I wanted this to be a fun free crawler for me to use in my spare time around the hood, but I ended up getting hooked on the Mantis Chassis. I figured I would do a white one since I've not seen one built yet. When I started putting the chassis together I decided to do the wiring as clean as possible. I shortened all of the RX wires and wraped everything with cable mesh. Came out decent, but the cable routing could be better with some more precise planning.

Here's a few pics from my workshop

Looks good...will look even better with your lowers in the right location

If it were mine, I'd drop the uppers one hole in the chassis for your first trip to the rocks.

The White looks really good. I've thought it would be cool to get a white one and dye it so it's like mainly black and then have accent colors for the braces... Just what I think would be cool.

That looks great, any plans to dye it some funky colour. Nice innovation with the rear weight

First outing today was a ton of fun! I liked the rock traversing behavior of this chassis as compared to my stock one. Much improved! I threw my wraith wheels and tires on this till I get some more crawler appropriate units. I really wish RC4WD would make this Baja Claw in a softer crawler friendly compound because they provide a ton of clearance and side bite even in this crappy compound.

Thanks for making a truly awesome chassis BWD! I am very happy with it

Upgrade!

I installed some super soft TCS internal springs. These are a huge improvement in smoothness over the stock springs. They just a bit softer as well.

To install them I put an o-ring on the shock cap and built the shocks emulsion style from the bottom cartridge. Easy install. I used the axial 30wt wraith kit oil because it's all I had on me when I did this.

Also wanted to show off my wiring job. I tried to make it as neat and clean as possible. Feedback and suggestions are welcome. I shortened all wires where possible and wrapped everything in wire wrap mesh.

Made a servo guard and axle battery tray from Stainless Steel.

Wiring

The next thing I want to do with the wiring is add bullet connectors to the motor leads. I'll do this when I upgrade the motors and add a second ESC later on.

lookin good man!

could you elaborate on the rear weights you're running?? right now i have some sticky weights electrical taped around the lockouts, but your idea looks much cleaner

I just found 2 nuts that fit onto the rear axle and they screwed right on. They are on there tight and will only come off if I unscrew them. Take your axle to your local hardware store and find two nuts that will snug up on the axle then tighten them down. Not too tight, but tight enough that they will not come off by pulling on them.

Simple is best.

i figured that's about what you did but wasn't sure. have you weighed them to see how much weight they each add?

No, I don't have a scale handy. It's on the list of things I need to get but I don't really need to get.
