Default XR10 with rear Wraith lockouts

This is how I made the Wraith rear lockouts on my XR10. First I had figure out how long the rear shaft needed to be. Brandon was the one who did this first I think. He said he did it a long time ago and didnt remember the lenths. Wraith rear lockout AX80071 - AR60 OCP Straight Axle Adapter

I bought a set of rear axles shafts. Then I cut the axle close to the inside end. Then I cut the other end of the shaft so the long shaft is now 19mm longer. I used the coupling pictured to join the shafts. The total lenth is now 131mm for the long side.

I brazed the shafts together.

Then I ground the shaft down with a grinder. A lot of grinding.

This is what it looks like in the rear axle. And pictures of a stock XR10 lock out and the Waith lockout.

I used a long shaft for the other side I had to grind the round ring off of it. Then ground the two flat sides on it.

I works great. On the first comp I was in I though the axle broke. But the plastic wheel just stripped out.

Ya I thought about widening the rear of my XR but I'd rather keep it narrow. Nice little write up though.

i'm running stock wheels too with is why i was looking at this mod. how much width did you gain?

what i've seen is a lot of people running pretty wide hubs in the rear so they aren't really taking advantage of the narrow axle width anyway. i was thinking if i did this mod i could simply run very narrow hubs.

Its about the same width as the front. I also narrowed my stock wheels.

Great work. I understand if you don't have the wheels and hubs you want.

Im still running the stock wheels as well. Thats why I did it, wanted to see how the truck felt with a rear axle at the same width.

Great job posting up the details

I don't comp so exact rear width wasn't that critical, but didn't care for the narrower rear of the XR10. I had several extra stock AX-10 wheels (8-hole) lying around. Offset puts the rears a touch wider than the stock fronts. Required no mods and, at least for me, no extra expense. Been using for over a year. I like the wider rear stance much better than the narrower it came with. Can't use the VP slugs any longer for rears, but discovered a 5/32" cable clamp (horse and saddle) with u-bolt part slid through from outside is exactly flush with inside edge of beadlock. Cable clamps cost me $1.98 for 3-pack at Home Depot. Each weigh in at .55 oz. Four fit perfectly if I need them, netting max 2.2 oz in each rear wheel for a few dollars and take only a second to put on or take off. Figured I'd mention as an option if budget is tight.

I know Little Jon form crawling. I heard he sold his Berg. I go to most of SDRCRC comps. I go to Canyonside park and Lake Wolford. I'm in Mira Mesa.

I have stock xr fronts and ax rears and is almost the same width as the front. I did have ax wheels all the way around, but wanted the extra weight the internal weight system offered.
