Re: Krawl's "SECRET AGENT"

what i will share are the new foams from eddie at crawler innovations...

they are his new "closed cell design"

the foams consist of a new inner foam that is made of a very dense, very firm, yet lightweight foam similar to what a shortcourse or 1/8 scale buggy/truggy would run.

they are solid! you can see in the picture the area against the bead has been relieved to make mounting them easier due to the fact that they don't "squish" together like a standard foam.
http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d1...t/IMAG1016.jpg

they are similar to his standard double duece foam but these new inners offer a more consistent inner foam feel and do not breakdown as easily as the reg foam(especially in damp or wet conditions)

as of now what i have been informed of is there will be a 5.0,5.25,5.5,and 6.0 inner foam sizes (not actual size but for that diameter tire) to combo with the existing outer soft, med, and hard foams.

the boss claws do have a temperment when it comes to foams, that i have seen...

as you can see in the second video on the first page, i started with a brand new set of boss's.

the foams in the fronts are as follows:

closed cell inner 5.0
med 5.0 outer
med outer tuning band.

they look like this mounted.
http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d1...t/IMAG0965.jpg

these have done really well!
they managed the climb at the end of the video that i can not grab with the shaved boss's. that was a brand new tire out of the package.

i have since tried the "rubba cut" on the claws.
http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d1...t/IMAG1015.jpg

with the tread trim, they do have more forward bite on ledges and more lateral traction against the face. this is still a very easy mod for most to do with this tire and gain a substantial performance gain.

Re: Krawl's "SECRET AGENT"

What kind of weight set-up do you run in your front slw?

Oh and that chassis looks sick.

Re: Krawl's "SECRET AGENT"

this will give you an idea of how i am weighting the slw's with this foam.

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d1...t/IMAG1017.jpg

mine will hold (20) 3/8 tungstem .5oz weights:shock: thats up to 10 oz!

you can see the weights actually sit down below the inner foam and into the recess of the slw.

here is a "squish" test with a fully loaded one next to my standard dh setup.

Lookin' good.
I have been running those closed cell inners since mid-summer in several different tire setups. One of the big benefits I found was how much they reduce the bounce. There are more benefits, though.

I may have missed it, but will this chassis be available soon and where? Very nice design.

There is a link at the bottom of the first post.

Wow 16oz. for the front of your slw...That is more than your loaded dh now.

How do you like the added weight?

I think maybe he is just showing how much it will hold in the foam.

Re: Krawl's "SECRET AGENT"

I thought about trying to get all of my electronics on the motor mount, but that would require decasing of everything, and decasing my fxr's makes me nervous. I know some people whos esc's fried after decasing and shrinking everything together. I might just go your route and put some electronics on the motor mount and leave some in the chassis. Have you driven it since moving the esc's to the motor mount, if so how did it feel good or bad?

I am not really comfortable with decasing the fxr's either...

I drove it and it feels really good. I think the combination of weighted wheels (opposed to any knuckle/lockout weight) and absolutely minimum sprung weight is great.

It's not a new theory by any means.... But actually getting it accomplished and within a tenth of an ounce per corner difference, left to right, has made it feel really balanced.

Re: Krawl's "SECRET AGENT"

Do you have any issues with the weight slugs in the foams moving?

Seems like at wide open throttle they would get thrown out against the tire???

Or do they fit snug enough to not move?
That's an interesting idea on how to weight a wheel"thumbsup"

They look like they fit tight, plus the outer foam would prevent them from slinging out against the tire at wide open throttle.

correct.

the reason they work with these particular inner foams is that they are incredibly dense and firm.

the holes are undersized and they hold the weights tight.
