hitec HS 7980 TH?

Burned up my servo last night im gonna go down and pick up a new one today. What does everyone seem to reccomend as the go to. Money isnt an issue for this purchase as i dont want any future issues if avoidable. I was previously running the Hites HS 7950 TH. I recently turned up the BEC to 7.4v and rotated the caster back to achieve a little more turning radius and turned up my EPA's. What do you guys think? Did i burn up my servo due to turning up the EPA's. I definately want some more torque but the 7980 requires me to move the servo up to the upper screw hole and maje a bracket that will act as an extension so the servo still has all 4 hole to mount to. I understand this will also require me to get the VP upper link mount to have a more solid base to mount from, which is fine since it was on my list of to do's. Thanks for the tips in advance!!

where do you that the 7980 require all of this mod...

I use this monster form the beginning on my XR10 just need to grind the mount and grind a little the hole in the plate
I use some little spacer between the servo and the mount, that's all

Well ive seen where some people use machine screws (with the VP upper link mount) and loctite and just get by with the two upper holes on the mounts and the two lower holes of the servo. The extension bracket was my idea to give a complete backbone to mount the servo onto. I guess i thought to far into it without having hands on the parts. So do you like or do u really like the 7980? BTW I really lke ur car Dude

Don from billet works made my mount so no modifications to servo had to be made. It's a little wider and deeper servo. So he fixed me up a mount for it

I really likes this monster., just full of torque .. but in another hand, sometimes I regret his size and weight...

if you can take something to protect it... mine is crying' for a new case

I just picked up a Futaba BLS157HV servo....It has 514 oz. and is a standard size servo. Much Recommended!!


7980 Servo power is nice...But the added weight is not necessary IMO

many people fit the 7980 with little hassle. i actually made a beefier mount with the spare parts the kit came with.

Well.....the Hitec 7980 (which I've run from the very start) is stated by Hitec to weigh 76.54 grams and according to Futaba's own spec the BLS157Hv weighs 77 grams......not much of a weight advantage there

Actually the Hitec HS 7980 weighs .5 gram LESS than the Futaba bls157HV that your refering to!!! I know.... I had to double check as well. Plus it gets 84+/- oz of torque as well
Really I would love to run that Futaba but have a comp this weekend and no one around has that bad boy in stock. So Hitec it is for now!! We will see if this behemoth last longer!! Thanks for the helpful respones. Ive been shifting back and forth all day and it comes down to whats available right now (im a compilulsive buyer)

Is the futaba one mentioned standard size? If so that's not much of an advantage because the gears in the hitec would be bigger which I would think would be able to handle more.

Yes, the Futaba is standard size. I like the body on the Futaba but 600 oz is alot to walk away from!!

True, and a point seldom brought up when talking about the 7980. I bolted mine on with no mods at all, just spread the stock mount all the way out, start all four screws and screw it down. Does it look like all the screws line up perfect, no, but it'll fit. I also run my BEC at 8.4v, it'll toss the truck around no problem.

How did you have your bec wired? Where do u pick power up from battery or esc? Is it direct to the servo or powering through ur reciever?

BEC is hooked to the ESC input deans plug. I power direct to servo with a y harness. My rx can handle the voltage, but I fear running the high amp load through it.
