Default Copy

Is it wrong to copy an existing chassis you already own Just for yourself Not to offer it for sale? For design and tuning improvements? Key word is not for sale!!! I am having a debate with a few people at work about this, I am on the fence about it!!

If you are a lawyer then you would be researching the patents and copyrights to the product. If there are any then there is the question of licensing fees and royalties if you plan to sell them. If you only make a copy for you own personal use you may be OK but first read the fine print. Chances are that no one will come after you if you do copy it.

If there aren't any then go ahead and do as you please.

just give the OG designer credit for the main idea and make your changes as you see fit as long as it is just for your own use. Hell maybe your changes will spark some changes to the overall design of the next model
