Default Chaotic guru help please

I know this has been asked but I need some input from the Chaotic guru's please.

Hey guys I have been reading a hole bunch on this and i was never really good with techy math type stuff so I hope you can jump on me and maybe help me out.

I'll explain a little for you and drop a pic for you to check out.

My problem is when i want to make an incline climb i find that my front end wants to pull away from said rock face thus kicking me over backwards and when dig is used i feel that I dont have alot of bite on the front and my back end drops down quite abit (squat).

Now for link placement and technical terminoligy I am not very good at.
if someone can maybe suggest a new link placement to try out that would maybe over come what i am trying to accomplish that would greatly appreciated.

As for weight bias you can see my full balance point just to the front of the front lower link screw on the skid. My rig is setup 60/40 from center of the truck.

my front shocks are 3.5 inches and the rears are the XL BB's limited with cap mod to 4" internally limited with only 3/4'' of travel.

Hope this helps you guys out i did look around and saw a bunch of posts but I just can't rap my head around the physics and math for all this stuff.

Please help guys I am stumped

A little hard with ur side panel on, an I'm far from a guru... By placement is, front uppers in the top hole of my vp link mount, second hole up from bottom of chassis. Rear is in the 3 hole up from the chassis an in my second hole down on my rear vp link mount... Front shock is in the upper row of shock mounting holes, 3rd row back, or 4th for ur chassis.. rears are bout the same spot. I have the Switch chassis.. it performs great! I had the same problem you do till I moved my rear links up a hole on the chassis.. now I have no problem with verticle climbs..

Wow, you are a techy aren't you? I ran basically the same setup on my special chassis as the switch.

Front links- second hole from the bottom
Front Vp mount- upper hole

Rear links- third hole from the bottom
Rear Vp mount- upper hole

Front shocks- second hole from the front of the chassis, upper set of holes.
Rear shocks- third hole from the rear of the chassis, lower set of holes.

You might want to try the upper set of holes on the both front and rear shocks because your ride height is a little high. This can be part of the issue with your vertical climbs as your center of gravity is to high.

The link position I have transfers weight to the front of axle instead of forcing the weight to go to the rears. I am also running at least half the weight you are on the front knuckles and I have no issue with the front settling down for me.

Now, the shocks are another story. I run SCX shocks and not big bores. Shock oil can also play a part in your issues as well as the foams in your tires, weather, and the rock you're driving on.

Try the suggested setup then change one thing at a time and test again. Post up your results and we'll go from there.

well a big thanks to slowride for helping me with my ride. I can honestly say my rig hasn't ever performed as good as it did today. I had better focus and the rig hooked up crazy. I will post up a video of it tomorrow as they are loading to the tube right now.

Thanks again I set my truck up how you said and ....WOW....

Right on. Im glad Randys setup has helped you out. Just keep in mind that your rig was WAY off & pretty much ANY movement was gonna help. Randys put a lot of time into tuning his rig but its still HIS rig. Keep playing with things one at a time. Im not sure of your RTR weight but it seems like its pretty heavy so you MAY wanna start dropping some weight to help your overall performance that much more. Dont go crazy tho. When we tune our rigs...its small changes, one at a time. That way you can record what changes did what performance wise. Of course...if you're not comping the rig & just play crawling then weight isn't a big issue. If you look at all of the Chaotic builds out there...we might be close but none are identical because there are SO MANY variables into what makes a rig work & NOBODY has those variables the same.

Again...glad shes working better. Tuning a crawler can get frustrating but the more changes you make, the more you understand what affects those changes have on a rig. Its all about finding that happy place...a balance. Having a rig that does well in ALL aspects of crawling. Sidehills, breakovers, decents, gaps etc. Otherwise we'd all have 4lbs of weight on the nose & 6" of GC. Now that she's climbing good...make sure you haven't sacrificed anything else.

Good job Randy. Ya got another happy crawler

J.D.
