Default Yeti XL to 17mm hex conversion

Guys, I did the search on this forum, and googled everywhere, and I think I've concluded that these are all the parts required to convert the skimpy 8mm nut on our XL to a 17mm nut to hold the wheels.

17mm Hex Hub Nut (4 pieces) - AX31230
Hex Hub Set 17mm Yeti XL (4 pieces) - AX31255
M5x6mm Set Screw (4 pieces) - AX31261 - grub screw?
Pins????

Am I missing anything before I put my order down? Or there are better aftermarket options I'm not aware of. I know Traxxas hubs will work, but I'm trying to avoid any parts modifications (like drilling the Traxxas centre hub to 8mm... impossible for me).

I'm really getting confused now after looking at this. Do I need the shaft as well?

Because the hubs come with a hole for a pin, and in the RTR, I've no idea how to mount the hub (as the RTR shaft does not have any holes).

You didn't search well enough, there's a couple threads with the answer to your question. And yes you will need new front stubs and rear shafts.

Here's the parts needed for the new wheel hex conversion for the RTR:

Axial Rear Axle 10x169mm (17mm Hub) Yeti XL - AX31260
Axial Front Axle Stub 16x39mm (17mm Hub) Yeti XL - AX31259
Axial Hex Hub Set 17mm Yeti XL (2) - AX31255

Keep in mind that Axial generally sells parts in a package of two so you will only need one each of the first two items I listed and two of the last item.

Are the stock rims 17mm hex? Or are all doing this to get new rims and tires? Also what wheel nuts do you suggest? I stripped the wrench that came with the rtr version so I'm wanting to upgrade cause I hate the damn wheel nuts lol.

Yes...the stock YETI XL rim accepts a 17mm hex.

Wait and upgrade to these new Axial parts when they become available.

Could you use the stock rtr stubs and just cut off the treaded part?

I would go with the axial conversion but if you are impatient... Hot Racing has a 17mm conversion set for the RTR.

This is the kit I used on my Kit version. I had to buy RTR axle shafts and stub shafts to make it compatible tho.. This was before HR had released the kit for kit versions.. Strong as hell tho. Worthwhile upgrade.

I have not met someone yet who can counterbore an existing hole with a standard drill bit and make a successful counderbore on center and not wallered out.

Not a good idea at all unless you have access to machining equipment.
