Default Note on diff shims

Did test assembly on front diff in my kit tonight installed 2 shims as per kit instructions. Pinion is too deep on ring gear with 2 shims pinion gear almost touches the diff cup. Tried again with 1 shim and good. This is with the DHawk spacer. With 2 shims when you turn gears they felt notchy. With 1 shim butter smooth.

I was doing the same thing last night. Found your message timely! You prompted me to measure the dhawk and kit/stock spacers I found that the kit/stock spacer actually measured a bit larger, but compressed pretty easily down to the size of the dhawk spacer. I ended up with two shims, just as I had before the dhawk spacer. I did notice that it was easy to not completely seat the large e-clip that holds the bearings/spacer/shims to the pinion, and it would rub inside the input drive hole on the bulkhead housing, making the drive shaft difficult to turn. Had to tear it apart again to address that.

Glad I stumbled across this thread. It prompted me to check mine. Front was notchy, rear was smooth. Kind of glad they were different or I may have missed it (it's my first kit). Went down to one pinion shim in the front and it was smooth. Thanks.
