Default Axial Yeti XL Kit - My first kit build

Axial Yeti XL Kit

My first kit build.

Electronics:
CC Mamba Monster 2 - 1:8 WP ESC w. 2200kv motor
Hitec HS-9475SH BL Steel Gear Servo 19.4kg/0.10
Futaba R304SB receiver

I didn't use the CC BEC 10A. Is it necessary/recommended to use BEC?

Castle is well known for having a crappy internal BEC. But, I think the Mamba Monster 2 has a 5 amp BEC which is "ok" and I think will be fine for driving. As long as you don't plan to "Crawl" with it, you'll be fine without an External BEC. The MM2 is capable of adjustable voltage between 5-7v, so if your servo will handle it, push up the voltage.

Just keep in mind if your servo starts "browning out" you will need to add one.

X2 on Reds comment. You may not "Need" it but for the $$ it is cheap insurance.

Great job on the build and i like the colors. The receiver antenna wire goes in the small clear silicone tube to the left. won;t hurt anything but if you put in a BEC you may need that room the antenna wire took up.

Thanks for the comments.

I tried to install Castle BEC ( CC BEC 10A ) but I could not fit the Device in receiver compartment because of the size. Anybody have suggestions where I can Place it or other BEC Components which is more suitable? ( share any experience about other models of BEC Component)

Product link:

Castle Creations | CC BEC and CC BEC Pro

I have placed the receiver antenna cable through the small hole.

I was able to get it inside with the stock rx. It is a tight squeeze and requires a custom short harness if you are bypassing the rx and only powering up the servo with the ebec. The castle bec should fit. You will have to move the rx into the corner of the box and lay the bec on its side with the cap facing the wire exit. I wish I would have taken pics. He is in kc now, so I cannot get them.

Actually I lied, we went through 2 factory tx/rx combos before the hobby shop installed a team associated combo to get my brothers rtr up and running. So he is running an associated rx. The factory axial have problems.

Vashan. I could totally be wrong, but it appears from the video that you're not getting full turn movement to the right. Left seems good, but that full right turn seems limited..... ???

Congrats on the rig btw, I miss seeing my all fresh and new like yours.

Last thing: what is, and where can I get, that bag thing you have over the "engine bay"?

Hi _WonderBeard_

I will check the movement to the right.

I got the cover from Dusty Motors. Its called shrouds. They have different sizes. You have to use size XL for Yeti XL.

Check out Dusty Motors website:

Are you running a Power Absorbing Device (PAD) with your HSB-9475-SH?

I would contact Hitec about getting one. Running without it can cause issues such glitching and premature BEC failure. Most BEC don't like a voltage coming back from the servo and hitting its output with it.

June 2014: Brushless Servo Service Bulletin

While compatible with most radio control devices, the regenerative braking feature of the HSB-9XXX series servos may cause a problem if the device cannot accept a backflow of current. The types of devices that cannot accept this backflow are: Voltage Regulators, Power Safe Receivers and certain BEC circuits whether stand alone or integrated within an Electronic Speed Control. Check with the manufacturer or the Hitec website for a list of compatible models. If your device cannot accept a current backflow, then you must install a PAD (Power Absorbing Device - Hitec PN# 55756) as described in this manual. A PAD is included with every Hitec brushless servo.

I have contacted the local hobby shop where I bought the servo.

On the hobby shop product information page they have the same details about PAD.

I got the following reply from Hitec Customer Service regarding the PAD issue:

You shouldn't need them when using the Castle, Tekin or Novak ESC's.
