| New panels and theme for my YXL -Axial Air Force-
Been a year since I started bashing this monster. Been pretty good to me, too. I have spent money on hopups before I even opened it up thanks to this forum and added a few more recently. Over the past year I have been spraying bodies when I can and improving my skills in that regard and finally made time to work on the panels I have had sitting on the shelf since last fall. My knifework upsets me. I invested in a Silhouette Cameo to cut vinyl masks for myself. Still takes forever to peel off the body, but at least I don't have to cut letters and straight lines by hand! I remembered to mirror the designs before cutting this time too! |

Layed the masks down and roughed in where the tubework of the body lays on the panels with dry erase marker on the overspray film. |

Then a 12 hour process of spraying and drying and peeling masks and tape started. I stayed focused on the task so I did not take many shots of the progress work. Spaz Stix mirror chrome, silvers, candy red, platinum pearl, white pearl, candy black, iridescent green, flo-green, and fasglow made its way onto the panels. I did think it looked cool on the reverse at this point though so I took a pic. |

The distressed/weathered metal look came out like I wanted. Mirror chrome only looks mirrored with the black backer behind it. Candy black shading was done before the chrome, and silver behind some parts of the chrome to dull it up a bit. Rivets were done with a taped off polka dot stencil in chrome, with a shot of candy black on top to shadow them. They dance in the light nicely! |

It is near impossible to show in a picture but I really wanted to try this effect. 5 coats of Fasglow did a neat trick... |

Since painting took all day and night I ventured the following day to check out a new spot and get some photos. |

I ended up busting a few things in the yard jumping it. This screw came loose and got snagged so I put a SS replacement in. Five minutes later I decided that screw was not necessary. I broke a lower link on a flopped airtime jump, caught a wheel on the big electrical box I was using to hold up some boards. It held together so I finished out the packs airing it out some more! |
