Default bent motor shaft?

Castle 1515 motor and broke a pinion gear tooth. Installed new pinion and went to set gear mesh. Mesh is tight and 180 degrees out or other side of spur and mesh is way too loose. Installed new spur gear new slipper main shaft checked all bearings and tried another new pinion and same. If I set up pinion and spur gear where the teeth will touch ends and turn spur gear 360 it stays same distance from pinion. If I turn motor shaft 1/2 a turn and teeth bind. Just find it hard to believe the larger motor shaft over the smaller slipper shaft would bend first.

Try to rotate the shaft against a marker and see what happen. If you have just a spot and not a complete circle you might have a problem. Otherwise it's just a problem from the spur, try to install it in another position, it happend to me. Twice

I locked the motor in the mount where the teeth tips would just touch. I can turn the spur gear 360 no problem. If I turn the pinion gear about 1/2 way the teeth bind and if I go back they will not till I get back to the same spot. Just hard to believe the large motor shaft is bent but I am out of ideas.

Sounds like motor shaft is bent, to be sure take the rotor out and spin it on a drill, also check the rotor they put small lead weights on top to balance it.

Anyone know how I might have done this and how NOT to do it again? Rebuild kits are discontinued and I hate dealing with the factory and these motors ain't cheap.

The lead weights are doing their job only at high rpm. It might be the rotor's shaft, after all. Try to do what I said, but even without the pinion. That way you'll be sure it's the shaft (I suppose you already checked the bearings for radial play)

could it be an issue with the mount putting the motor at an angle compared to the slipper? Meaning they're not parallel.

Its all HR aluminum and the tight spot will come and go with gear rotation. I think if the mount was bent gear face angle would be wrong but I could still rotate motor enough to get proper mesh all the way around the gear.

Are you still running the robinson slipper setup?

NO. Went back to stock over a month ago and since I LEARNED how to drive this thing it works GREAT. Not 1 problem from the slipper. Just got tired of fighting the RR slipper and the excessive slipping and heat from it.

Well, there's your problem. Put the robinson back on and see if your problem goes away. I bet it will.

Already tried a new stock and HR spur with same results and NO. I am done with the RR slipper mess.

On mine, out of the box the spur gear was out of round. It became noticeable visible when run on the stand. Have you checked the spur shaft? It will always be easier to turn the spur compared to the pinion because of size.

Steve, just try it and see if it works. Not saying to keep it on. But I'm pretty sure it will fix it.

Sold the RR slipper to someone else who got tired of it.

In original post I noted I did install new spur shaft. Checked old one and its straight but put new one in any way with no change. new motor will be here Wednesday so we will see.

Best of luck with the new motor Steve! I think castle has an arrange mm where you can send in old/broken CC motors and get 30-40% off on a replacement? Worth looking into!

Yeah dealt with that on my 1/10 stuff before. Might send it back if new motor fixes it and see what they say. If it is motor shaft I really want to know why and how to avoid it. I got a year out of this motor so I really don't feel too bad but avoiding it at all would be great.

Got new motor tonight and set everything up. Gear mesh is PERFECT. Absolutely a motor shaft issue. Anyone have any idea why? I don't know and don't want to repeat this issue.

Of all things to bend? I wonder if was bad bearing in the motor? I would think if there was enough force to bend the shaft it would not spin at all...
