| First Time Drive Yeti - Clacking Noise
Well after a long wait the Yeti arrived and the past week I replaced many of the plastic parts with upgrade aftermarket aluminum. Now I go out for my first drive and have a clacking/chattering noise. 1) was already bind together with controller 2) adjusted trim for steering L/R to be centred 3) put the Yeti on the ground and gave some throttle 4) the Yeti just jerked back and forth with no acceleration with the Clacking noise 5) gave the Yeti a push and then it was off and running smooth 6) 10 min of forward driving I had the Yeti stop with the braking 7) now the Yeti is back to this jerking movement / no acceleration / clacking noise What is this and am I required to do some calibration for first time use ? |

you have to do a process of elimination to narrow out the possible culprit. isolate front diff, tranny and rear diff, etc. does it sound when you run it off the ground?

Hard to tell you over text. could be several things, or a combination. would take you two seconds to pop off the spur gear cover and eliminate that.

No shavings that is sand... Tightened the mesh,,,, did not solve the issue,,,, think must be something in rear axel.... off the ground front axel turns easy,,, off the ground rear axel does not turn easy Last edited by SilicaStorm; 10-18-2014 at 05:53 AM. |

Great! now remove one or both sides of the rear driveshaft. only one screw per side and you can remove the entire thing. this will make your car fwd to see if the problem is in the rear axle

As far as the front axle turning easier than the rear be sure you're actually spinning both front tires. the front has a differential the rear does not, so if you spin one of the front tires you'll notice the other one actually spins the opposite way. totally different feel so remove that rear driveshaft and then plug it in and run it while you're holding it up.

okay so if the rear axle is disconnected and the same problem is there, obviously that's not it. hopefully you still have your spur gear cover off but If you can either remove the pinion from your motor, or set the mesh so that the motor is able to spin freely without engaging your other gear. then go ahead and power it up. if you get the same problem, the rest of your truck is fine and most likely I'd guess it's a faculty esc, in which case Axial would be able to help you out

Well after an almost complete tear down,,, Axial sent a Yeti with no quality check 1) the "C" power lead from the motor was NOT soldered,,, only held together with the shrink wrap,,, !!! hence why sometimes the connection was good,,,, thanks to all for you help in isolating this factory defect ! |

You have a motor plug that is loose. Check your ABC connections on the ESC. My solder was poorly done on my yeti. Same symptoms.

Yea that sounded like a brushless motor esc issue. Good thing you figured it out!
