Default Nasty Noise

My yeti is making a loud straining sound when at high speed, and it seems to be coming from around the spur case/tranny.

I've messed with the mesh to see if it fixed it, but it didn't but it did sorta help it somewhat. I noticed that when i slowly rotate the spur, the mesh changes in closeness by a small amount - could that be the issue?

I've not opened up the transmission as yet, I was hoping to avoid doing such a lengthy job if at all possible.

Any ideas would be greatly received guys.

It's not a lengthy job, trans is easy to pull out.

Could also be mesh too close - tight mesh is just as bad as loose.

Ok i'll pluck up some courage and take the tranny out.

Could it be caused by the nut holding the slipper spring in place having worked its way loose a tad? I'm going to tighten it up a bit and see if that makes any difference.

Take the spur gear off and the rear slipper plate. Look closely at the plate and the trans case/housing. I have found on mine it was rubbing the casting of the trans and the design of the slipper plate made it make a strange noise. Don't know of that's your noise but never the less something to check .

Hmm, looks like yours actually; I presume it's not supposed to have those notches then? They're quite prevelent on mine, aren't they

Yes it is haha. I assume you have more run time then I do. I do not know what causes this. Not sure if the shaft the spur gear rides on is set too deep, if the plastic casting is off, but I've sanded down the contact areas on the slipper plate and trans case a little. It still makes the noise now and then. I'm assuming the shaft is walking in and out of the trans a little causing the noise still. Othere then that I havnt done much with it.

So I took the trans out and examined it all it - it is indeed the slipper, as per above. I'll do what you've done and sand it down a tad, see what difference it makes. OR, get the new axial slipper set, if i can find it here in the UK.

Update: I've discovered the issue, and the slipper isn't the root cause.

I noticed that the shaft the slipper was attached to had a slight bit of play on it; it'd move in and out of the trans housing by maybe 0.5mm or so. When it moved in, the slipper would rub on the plastic housing and make the noise, when i pulled it outwards it stopped.

So i checked the screws that keep the trans fastened together, and some were quite loose! I tightened them all up, and now there's no movement in the shaft.

And guess what... no more crazy noise. The shaft can no longer sink into the trans allowing the slipper to catch. No need for sanding.

Enjoy.

Yea that's what I had come up with that the shaft was going too far into the housing but never looked any further, glad you figured it out I might just have to look at mine
