Default Bh lt4 120a esc?

My stock setup keeps overheating on 3S.
I picked up a brushless hobbies LT4 120amp ESC.
Has anyone used one of these with the stock vanguard motor?
Any input on if this will work or not?
I'm hoping I can now run 3S without the thermal shutdown I kept getting. (Was running old axial ESC with no fan).
Thanks!

The lt4 should be able to handle the motor on 3s. They look like your typical hobby wing clone. The fan really helps alot. Those escs, csn take a good beating.

If you still overheat, try gearing your pinion down 2-4 teeth untill it doesn't anymore.
Also make sure your lipo is up to snuff. High discharge 40c and up work best. And if you are running dean's connectors, do yourself a favor and get something bigger. And no crappy dry solder joints. Always use flux.

Lol - my discharge rate is only 20C (11.1V venom 20C 4000mah)
Could that be my problem? Running deans as well.

Dean's connectors shouldn't give you any problems. I use them with 50C 3S packs, they never get warm.

I never liked dean's plugs, had one of the wires come loose and fry a lipo. When I first got into the hobby and had an sc8.

Thats why I always use hxt 4mm plugs. The wire goes into a cup full of solder surrounding the wire completely vs the dean's plug where only 50% of the wire gets soldered onto a small tab.

Just my preference but I never have to worry about it coming loose, or overheating the wires or esc. I usually run 65c+ lipos. And 550 4-pole motors.

Just try gearing down for now. If that doesn't help get a better battery.

Are you running a BEC?

That usually helps to keep the heat down.

I did buy a BEC. I saw some people install them and I picked one up.
I'll throw that in there and then try a 40C battery and see what happens.
I'd prefer to keep the stock ESC/Motor.
Thanks all!
