Default Heat Temps

Just picked up a Yeti , dropped a 3s Lipo in her and sure enough things started breaking which was expected. After reading many threads off shopping I went ordered all the bells and whistles. I'm leaving the stock motor and esc in FOR NOW or until she lets go , I just changed my 16t pinion gear to a 17t pinion gear and ran her in straight lines about 40ft 6 times and brought her in to check the temps and she was at 183 deg F. What kinda of temps should I be looking for or running at ? Any help or speed gear combos would help

You're hitting the upper limit there... 160 is the safe, "hot" number. Generally.

Do you know of a solid 3s gearing ratio with good temps .

No, not in a Yeti. You're obviously close. Drop a tooth and try again.

If you're not smelling motor at 183 degrees, you might be okay with it.

If the battery is hot, then it's the battery. If the battery isn't hot, then it's not the battery.

So pretty much stock is the max set up for 3s. I never checked the temps when it was stock even the 16t might still be hot.

Axial pretty much sets up their trucks at the thermal limit.

There's got be hundreds of posts talking about Wraiths killing motors on here.

Hes gonna kick you onto a surfboard with a fishing pole and then throw a coconut at you. Then yall get drunk on rum afterwards.

An on the subject of heat, 3s on the stock system is hard on the ESC but the motor does pretty good. Stock gearing or slower keeps the ESC happy. I doubt you would kill the motor before the ESC at any gearing.

Many have VERY good luck with the MMP.
OR you could go with that sweet new Holmes Hobbies TrailMaster BLE Pro ESC...

I hear it is going to be the be-all end-all ESC for all things scale, crawling and bashing!

... as for gearing...

My trusty local hobby shop owner says "go up a tooth until you see smoke, then back down a tooth!"
LOL

Yeah. Funny, but no. Heat. Again, you're right on the cusp.

Take temps of the controller since you can. Can you smell the solder flux?

No not yet, I ll be dropping down the pinion back to the 16t before I run and check the temps . I'm almost thinking I may have to go down to a 15t.

I may even cut a couple of holes in the hood to get a little more air flow to the motor and esc

Is that the same as cutting some holes in your grass skirt?
