Default Locker or Diff?

I am reassembling my yeti that I bought from a fellow member. Should i install the diffs front & rear or put in lockers? I will not be racing the truck, just trails & bashing.

I have 500k in the front, and it is pretty useless at limiting the front diff. I'm planning to lock it in the near future.

I tried silly putty in my rear.. Feels pretty good but haven't got to drive it.. Waiting on a new servo saver.. I have 7000k in the front.. I drive on a track though.. I like it.. I had 20,000k in the rear but, it kept leaking out..

I run both diffs open. 500K in the rear, 20K in the front.

I like the way it handles. You can try it both ways and see what fits your driving style.

My rear is locked.

I tried 100,000 in the front, was no different than being unlocked.

I've read good stuff about the Gravity RC diff fluids but haven't tried it yet. Gravity Pro Shop Team Gravity Rc | RC Racing

Currently running Mack's pillow soft and so far I like it. http://www.amazon.com/Macks-Pillow-S...cone+ear+plugs

Before I tried the Mack's every-time it would land on one of the front wheels that wheel would stop dead and the car would flip.

I tried Silly Putty in another car awhile back and it lasted about 30 seconds.

The only reason I haven't locked the front yet is concerns over blowing the gears out when hitting something.

Great info guys. I did put 100k in the front, that's all I had on hand. I definitely need thicker lube, I'm going to order some of the gravity oil. I'll keep you guys posted.

I am running 100k in the front and Macks silicone ear plugs in the rear and love it. Every weight oil I tired in the rear leaked out

So, how do you use ear plugs in the diff? Does the plug just jam the gears?

Buy Pillow Soft White 6 pair, Best Earplugs for Sleeping, Loud Noises and Swimming | Macks Earplugs.

There are the soft silicone plugs you used to go swimming when you were a kid. It's the same principle as silly putty but the silicone will not dry out.

How many do you put in the diff cup?

As much as you can stuff in there, which is only 1/4 to 1/2 of one plug. Very easy to trim off any that gets pressed out when your screw the gear on. The first time I did not put enough in and it caused the gear to skip teeth so make sure you get as much as you can in there.

Hey mudbeast, I dont want to hijack your thread but found it as I was about to post a question on modifying my rear diff to remove the lockout. My question was really that the surfaces I run on are grass or packed dirt as opposed to really lose stuff or rocks. As I bash I see the vehicle flipping on turns so think an unlocked rear diff would suit the car better and improve this. I was after feedback as to whether this would be the best approach.

If so what parts would I need to change from stock kit to unlock the rear diff? Should it be fluid filled or packed with grease? I note there is opportunity for leakage in the rear so guessing the grease would be better?

Happy to remove the question and go to a dedicated thread but most forums prefer to ask similar questions on the same thread.

Thanks

Richard

I'm running locked in rear & open in front. Currently I have 100K diff fluid in the front. It is not enough for my taste. I will be trying the silicone earplugs. Or I may be locking her up. As far as diff parts, see the photo

Thanks bud, I think for me, my problems are around the flipping over on cornering. I have stiffened and lowered the suspension a little but I think I probably need to unlock rear diff due to high traction causing the car to tighten up and roll over. I think stiffer foams in the tyres might also help me as well.

Looking at the manual I'm guessing parts I need are;
3 x AX30390 - diff bevel gear
1 x AX30170 - diff pole
2 x AX1230 - o-rings - maybe 4 of these for the other side too if filled with fluid rather than grease?

Thanks

Richard
