Solid axle 1/18 is what I want.
I like to MRC axles but full aftermarket was never really there.

Heck, Losi CVD's and some knuckles/CHubs mounted to Beef Tube's would turn this rear axle into all kinda of possibilities.

I have a $2700 Bomber that goes 7mph. Plus, if I go through the effort of beefing up everything in the chassis and drivetrain, how likely is it that I'll leave the stock 380 brushed in there? For around $100 I can have a waterproof brushless combo in there. To be perfectly honest, I don't think this will be very well supported by the quality aftermarket sources like VP or SSD. Sure a couple simple parts might make it to market and Chinese parts will flourish but look how long it's taking parts to become available for the SCX10 II and that's arguably the most popular scale platform. If I see driveshafts, lockers, knuckles, etc. inside of a year I'll be surprised. A lot of the durability of this truck comes from the fact that it only weighs 1.75lbs RTR. Aftermarket beef up parts might ironically kill the durability. What I do see happening is a lot of retrofitting from other small scale trucks. In any case, I think this is going to be a very fun truck to tune and drive and I'm really excited to play with it. It's the Goldilocks of smaller scale to me. Not too micro and not too 1.9, it's just right.

Welp, I couldn't help but order one of these, and I have a few parts planned that I want to get designed and testing right away. (Don't send me requests to test, I've got that covered.)

I am really excited for these, and I am glad I'll see mine before Christmas! "thumbsup"

Interested to see what you come up with, monkeyracer.

Mine will be getting a Mamba Micro X as soon as Tower Hobbies pays out my e-cash from some purchases =)

That really is the perfect ESC for this truck and you can get the combo with motor for less than $90 shipped on eBay.

Re: Axial 1/18 Yeti (and Yeti Score)

With the tires being 3.5" tall, and the forward placement (and good protection) of the spur gear, these ought to handle actual dirt/bashing much better than my kids Dromida's and even my mini 8ight. The cv's up front are a nice touch, and the suspension looks pretty compliant. I'm not a fan of having to buy a new receiver when switching the esc, so a kit or artr would be preferred since I'm betting most of us would want to switch to brushless right off the bat. I won't be able to get one from this first batch, but it's still on my radar.

Im not getting one after all. It's not brushless ready and I don't like the open diff in the rear. I'd rather spend the money on my 1/10 yeti.

It's still a cool little truck.

I hope Axial releases some parts for these soon. I ordered one to be a little basher but so far, parts are almost completely unavailable. It'll sit on a shelf until I know I can fix it when it breaks.

It's not even out yet! Lol this is an early release which is why it's only available directly from Axial. Even if it were released wide scale from every vendor you're not likely to see parts right away. It's the same with nearly every Crawler that I've noticed. First the RTR/kit, then parts, then if popular you MAY see an aftermarket. The scx10 only has parts available because it's been around so long, extremely popular for a Crawler, and most of the kits use the same parts.

The Turnigy 20amp trackstar is less than $20 the new castle micro ESCs with motor can be had for under $80 on eBay which is a nice price considering the cost and quality of the ESC. If you were in a budget you could go brushless for around $40-$50

So wait.... it's going to sit on a shelf unused to prevent it from possibly sitting on a shelf unused?

Ummmmmm"thumbsup"

Why not play with it until it breaks, then let it sit on the shelf? :|

Or better yet , let me play with it while you order parts, start at the hubs and work in

Re: Axial 1/18 Yeti (and Yeti Score)

I'd say as long as it lasts longer than the Losi Mini LST2 that I won from Horizon a few years back, I'll be happy with it. (It didn't make it to the end of the driveway). Not stoked about the plastic axles in the rear axle, or the driveshafts, but that will leave some good options open for the aftermarket.

By the way, I think it is funny they keep referring to the material as "Durable Dupont Material", My guess is that it is Delrin (which is a brand name owned by Dupont). That's a good thing, but we will see how it holds up in the long run.

I love the size of the tires on the rock racer, but I think soon I'll be switching to some 4" tires on 1.7's, or stretch the stock tires over a 1.7 wheel or even maybe stretch it all the way to a 1.9.

I'll probably run the stock electronics at least once, but then I've got a Titan 380 and a Mamba Micro to throw in this. I might even try to jam in a full size servo and swap to rod ends and turnbuckles.

I've got an idea for a few parts that have been mentioned in this thread, so hopefully I can have a few things released right away.
I really hope some of the other vendors grab a couple of these and get some upgrades going for this soon. It seems the hot items are:

Lockers, metal axles/driveshafts, links/turnbuckles, electronics.
What else do you guys want to see for these things?

Re: Axial 1/18 Yeti (and Yeti Score)

Steel diff out drives, steel Cvds, center shaft and steel trans gears.

Castle set up will destroy all these stock parts especially on 3s

Trans gears? you want a new spur gear? already worried about replacing parts that don't even exist...
