Default Holmes Spools for Axial (and HPI)

I am pleased to announce that we are now making lockers/ spools for your SCX10, AX10, Wraith, Yeti, Wheely King, and similar axles! Since we have this big fancy lathe, might as well use it right? We are starting with the TorqueMaster Spool, solid Chromoly and built to take a beating!

Looking for a replacement locker on your Axial Racing rig? These are drop in fixes for that sloppy or broken stock locker. With extremely tight tolerances, they hold strong and reduce slop in your drivertain!

High quality Chromoly MADE IN USA at Holmes Hobbies!
Internal webbing prevents deformation
Offset outputs prevent deformation
Ribbed for your pleasure
20.5 grams
Light press fit tolerances (0.0002" interference), no slop
Compatible with Axial AX10, SCX10, Wraith, and Yeti vehicles.
One year warranty of manufacturing defect, lifetime low cost replacement policy

We recommend that you wiggle or press your drive shaft into the spool, instead of removing material from the driveshaft. Expect a slip fit for 1/2 the tang insertion, and light to medium press fit for the bottom 1/2. In most cases you can wiggle the stock shaft in without needing more than hand force, but aftermarket driveshafts may be looser or tighter.

Find them at your local hobby shop, favorite online retailer, or at HolmesHobbies.com

We should have the second type done in a few weeks, once we change the machine tools out for a different material.

Added to first post, made in USA right here at Holmes Hobbies, and Lifetime low cost replacement policy.

Are the flat spots in the locker inline or are the 90* off from each other? I'm trying to find a locker that puts the shafts in phase together.

Yes, the slots are 90 degrees offset. Since we have had quite a few ask for a phased locker for the front of high speed rigs, I will run a few more this morning with in-phase outputs while the machine is tooled for the job. I made the program easy to change in this regard. We will stamp these with a P for "phased". I will add them to the site in a few hours when I get to the shop and ensure I still have some material left.

I have made 8 spools with phased outputs this morning, if they are popular we will run them again with the next batch.

How well will these work with narrowed axles with cut shafts? I am narrowing a set of AR60s at the moment, and have concerns about the set screw style lockers grabbing the thin necked down section of the shafts. Coupled with the fact that almost none of the Wraith housings are actually "true" to begin with, I can picture them constantly coming loose or wobbling in the spools. A solid spool with as tight a fit as possible to begin with seems like the best solution. Or, shafts that are 5mm the whole length of the shafts, which nobody seems to make.

I bet you could ask creeperbob to make you some custom shafts.
