| whoever said "war is hell..." NEVER PUMPED CONCRETE!!!
For those that don't know, I'm a diesel mechanic for Merli Concrete Pumping here in vegas. Concrete pump trucks are awesome machines but when things go wrong, they don't do it half-assed... I just spent all worning almost knee deep in concrete because our brand new Schwing 8800TP just lost a mud cup... Tons of concrete are POURING out of a part of our half million dollar machine where it should not be. Me and one other mechanic were down there this morning helping the oerators clean the thing out and replace the broken parts. All while standing in the middle of the largest jobsite in the US right now, over 7000 people running around, 15 or so cranes, hundreds of pieces of heavy equipment... This place is a god damn circus. And all of this because schwing won't warranty a ****in material cylinder to us. ****!! Ok rant off... |

| The key to standing in concrete working, is to try to get the job done fast! Take too long and that jobsite will have a guy with a mohawk permantly stuck in the middle of it! DJ, contrary to your location line.... I like you! You're the coolest black guy on RCC! Oh wait, you're the only black guy on RCC! |

Trying to move around in wet concrete is a lot harder than people think. I'm a carpenter/scaffolder and worked on the Bow Tower here in Calgary. We built the frame (to their specs despite our protests) for a tarp system to contain heat while the poured the floors. One day they just finished smoothing a floor when a big wingstorm hit and it started sliding the scaffold clamps right off the tubes. The whole job was shut down but we had to run around in wet concrete and rebar a foot thick trying to secure a 200' by 30' section that was close to flying off into downtown Calgary. Vehicles and pedestrians everywhere without a clue that a couple thousand pound kite could slam into them at anytime. We got it secured without incident though. Point of my story is, I agree. Trying to run around in wet concrete working as fast as possible sucks ass and I'd never have done it if it wasn't 100% necessary. It is definitely shitty...... It was a good job for money and pictures though.... |
