Oh. Big toss up huh? That figures. Not only is that thing shooting a mad flame out of the tailpipe, it doesn't sound right at all. I wonder how this ever got past Fords inspection? Anyway, 7.3 powerstroke for life!!! And a....

That is still funny! It was some malfunction in the re-burn emission control. I guess these 07+ diesels have some type of a re-burn system to keep emissions down, but I guess it makes the exhaust hot as hell and I guess unless all the fuel is spent before exiting the exhaust you get sweet flames! if you notice all these newer diesels have a vented back section of the exhaust to help keep it cooler. Stupid ferds! Haha

In 07 the diesel industry had to conform to EPA's tier 3 emissions standards. In order to do this they're running much hotter and using reburners like toyutah stated. Kinda like a catalitic inverter in a gas car.

EGTs (exhaust gas temperatures) are running higher than they used to. My dad's 7.3L powerstroke under load will warm up to 1000 degrees. The 6.0L powerstroke will hit 1200-1300 in no time and I have no idea what the new 6.4L is running, its gotta be high...

to try to counter act the emmision they tryed to burn some of the execces diesel off, bad enginnering caused it to constantly ignite, making a 1 ton flamethrower. not sure where i heard that but i heard it after this was first noticed.
