| Non firing Land Rover V8 EFI
Having a few problems at the moment and was wondering if anyone knew anyhting about these motors. I was out last week and the motor died on me. All subsequent efforts to get it started have failed. I have checked for spark at the plugs (non) I have checked for spark at the coil to distributor lead (non) I have changed the coil and the ignition amplifier, still no success. I seen on the web of a problem with the printed circuit board of the immobiliser, i.e. the connections break and you can loose power to the ignition/starter/fuel systems. It states to check the +ve side of the coil for power. I have done this but there is power there. It does reduce when I crank it over to around 7V. Would this be enough to stop the ignition amp from working properly as this is also mentioned in the posting? I would prefer some input as the "spider" unit as it is called is located in the dash and sounds a bit of job to remove. Thanks in advance |

Is it getting told to fire the spark plugs? Check the crank and cam position sensors.

After some reading of the internet, and a phone call to a very helpful chap on UKRCRC I've managed to get it running again. Turns out it's the printed circuit board in the immobiliser, otherwise known as the "spider unit". Bypassed the output from this system, which connects to the coil, by putting a 12V supply straight from the batttery to the coil. Up she fired no questions asked. Now I know what it is I have to decide if I want to pull the dash apart to get to the unit and re-solder it or I just run a supply from the ignition. |
