Default old dog

everyone wants me to put my dog to sleep.
he's pretty much blind and deaf. so he bumps into stuff and whines abit because he can't see.
other than that the dog is healthy and in no pain. he's just old.
he eats two big bowls of food everyday .
i told the wife you better not get old .
any dog lovers out there?

wow!!!

I say let him be if he is not hurting and still in control of all his functions. hell going blind sucks for people but we dont kill them we take care of them a little better.

now if he cant eat, walk, is crapping and peeing all over the house, whinning because he hurts so bad. then I say put him in the dirt.

That's a tough one bud, I will tell you that deciding when a animal is not comfortable anymore is a tough one I would listen to the vet. :-( If there is any suffering at all any you have to do the right thing.

i say keep him. i'm a dog lover though. unless he is hurting himself by hitting things, or seems to be in pain, i would just keep him.

There are a lot of deaf and blind people out there. Should we put all of them out of there misery!

Just make the house easier for the dog. Move stuff that has no reason for being in the main rooms. Less stuff for him to bump into.

I couldn't do it. I was in the same situation a year ago. 15 year old dog that was blind and deaf. He couldn't eat food so he got a pack of hot dogs everyday with half an aspiring to help his athritis. He was happy until the day he fell asleep and didn't wake up. Enjoy the time you got left and let nature take its course.

he eats 2 bowls of mighty dog with some kibble and water to make gravy.
and does his business in the yard.
if he was crapping himself i wouldn't be asking.
i was just surprised by how many people i know think i should take him out .

If all of that is the case... Love him for as long as you can, and he can stand. It sounds like he can still live a productive life in your family. It just may be a little more work on your part, but it's worth it. You'll know when the time is right. And odds are he'll even figure out a way to tell you.

Just let your friends know that if they ever become blind and/or deaf, you'll do the right thing for them.
