| A question about my (LiPo) cell phone battery
I just happened to notice that my cell phone uses a 3.6v 1120mAh Li-Polymer battery. Would partially discharging / charging this battery daily eventually damage it? Example: My phone uses about 10%-25% of its battery in a day depending on usage. If I were to put it on its charging dock every night would I eventually hurt the battery? Edit: I normally make sure my phone has a low battery warning before I charge it. But if it is not an issue why bother. Last edited by _BEN_; 05-15-2008 at 05:00 PM. |

if you take a look at any modern cell phone manuel, they all say to let it get to to point where it warns you before you charge it for the very reason you stated. most people just ignore this and plug it in anytime there near a charger out of habbit.

If you charge is for more than 2-4 hours, it will eventually kill the battery in a sense. that happened to my phone because i charged it all night for about 2-3 mpnths and i had to get a new battery since it would work for about 2hours and just die. hopes this helps!

3.6v is typically Lithium Ion, not Lithium Polymer

They are lithium polimer it says so right on the battery pack. I checked my old phone and that has a lithium ion pack in it. Need cheap cells? http://cgi.ebay.com/NEW-Battery-For-...QQcmdZViewItem Funny: On the pack you can clearly see it says lipo but in the discription it says li-ion. The charging time made me wonder too. I can charge my battery with a stand alone charger or I could plug my phone in and it will charge. What is keeping this pack from over charging?... Meh.... I guess as long as my phone does not catch on fire I should be good. I have a spare and new batteries are cheaper than I thought. |
