Default huge nitro shortage affecting rc community

bad new for nitro owners. now i know this isn't a nitro oriented site but many of you also have the gas powered toys as well. anyway, i work at the local hobby town usa and we have had trouble getting fuel lately and today the sh*t hit the fan. nitro has been hit hard. there will soon no longer be 30% nitro produced from any manufacturer, and 20% supposedly going to jump to neary $45 a gallon. this was straight from the manufacturer of wildcat fuels. this goes for all brands. there is apparently a shortage of nitro methane to blame. even the NHRA has been affected as they are predicting to not have enough fuel to last the rest of the season. i just wanted the relay the news i got today at work. good luck guys and im glad i only own electrics. guess it a great time to be in the brushless conversion business.

Well, if it really is true, I guess I should be selling all the nitro cars and get a 5B.

4WD electric is gonna be it for me. I guess I'll hang up the 1/8 when I run out of fuel.

Our nitro fuel is synthetic..... As long as there is propane there will be nitromethane.

China is the only country producing nitromethane currently. With the Olympics coming they have cancelled their production as the process is very toxic to increase the look of the Chinese environment.

Sadly this is going to kill NHRA and Nitro RC racing. With the Olympics not until August, I'm sure this will kill my summer racing plans for certain.

Just convert it to BL/Lipo, even faster than Nitro.

Yup.

Word I got today was that China had 12 nitro production facilities and they're closing eight of'm in an attempt to make the air cleaner for the Olympics.

yea the china/japan story is what we heard too. the Olympics and the earthquake are responsible. fortunatley our rep told use at least till the beginning of the year......who knows. its finnally made its way down to our hobbies and toys. does this mean we should see a brushless honda soon? a real life VXL? LOL! now i get to talk the owner of the shop to send back all the nitro stuff we have and just stock brushless. Muah ha ha ha.

Just curious since I have never owned a nitro, what did a gallon of 20% cost before the hike to $45?
