| Finally have a nice place to work!!! Yup, it's a new workbench, lol.
To some this may not seem important. To others it is very important (like me). I have never really been in a great area to work on my hobbies. I lived in basements, apartments, closets, etc. Well the wife and I just moved into a house and I finally got to build a new workbench for my hobbies. I have a complete room, cable, tons of space for my models and R/C stuff, and also a door to let others know to leave me alone. A couple of weekends ago I designed the thing and bought the wood and built it. I now have a well organized and clean area to build in peace. Needless to say I am happy and I though I would share. Here is the whole view: Here is the shelving for the radio/boxes, etc: My small parts store: My soon to be finished crawler after months. I finally bought the last part today: Valuable reading material and a great mag as well!: My inspiration. I developed this to keep me on track over the months. As of today it is complete!: Like I said, many of you might not care about DocJ33P posting this. But many of you will care because you have a special area that you and only you have to work at. I am proud. lol Jon |

Congrats, that's a nice work area. Two things. I would get some good pics of your rig when it's running and lose the car posters. :-P I would never let my wife know how much money I have in any of my rigs. Yer a brave man. |

Looks good! You need to cover up that cell on the list with the yellow background.....wouldnt want your wife (or any of ours) to see that. As a man, you should know that everything costs $100....no matter what it really costs! |

You did a great job on the bench, but give it a week and it'll be covered in parts. | |

Thanks all! I am really happy with the bench! As far as the Ferrari posters well those will never be undone. Believe it or not they are my passion. I have more invested with Ferrari than anything. But ironically I do not own one?! She knows everything that I buy regardless if I tell her. She is an anomaly, really. I could be at work and buy a candy bar and she will call me and ask! lol She actually is really cool. Yup, the crawler will be complete before the next comp hopefully. Now I will have no excuses?!?!?! Oh crap. |

Nice looking bench. So how much did it cost in materials to put it together? I like how it is long but not deep. Where are the Ikea logos? I have two benches that I work at. One is a simple "student" wooden desk with 3 semi deep drawers off my left side and the other is back in the furnace room where I do all my grinding / dremeling / soldering ..whatever. I like how you took the time to organize a table for your parts that you have purchased. I currently have a MS word Document file going, but it is just description, where purchased, price, shipping costs etc. I'm onto page two already and getting almost sick of adding onto it! |

you might want to put a finish layer on the wood... before you start spilling oil on it...

very nice workbench I've been looking for a new table for months now, waiting for the perfect one to surface. I think I may have to borrow your design and build my own, yours is perfect, nice spot for the TV |

Wow, I was expecting less response?! I do have the design drawing at home on the bench, lol. I have all of the dimensions at hand. I basically designed it so that I could use one piece of plywood for the whole thing. I know I ripped it down the middle and the whole width is 7'. If anyone wants I can get more detail for them. It basically could have a real car on it to work with. Everyone laughs at how sturdy it is. I love it. I was thinking of finishing it but it is only framing wood. The total cost for wood was like $40. I bought 5-6 1"x1", 5 2"x4", and one sheet of better quality plywood. I almost spent more on the screws. Thanks for all the kind words guys. As for the crawler I finally bought the last part yesterday and that was a flippin charger. I have been waiting to finish it because of this fact. So I have not really put into it lately. Last night though I created all of my custom links with 8/32 and Revo ends. Today the delrin should come in from Mcmaster. Once the charger is in I will have it ready to go. |
