Default Xtreme Rock Machines from Wallyworld?

Does anyone else have these little things? My son and I picked up a few of them tonight along with a playset that came with 2 trucks and a case that opens up into a mini rock-bed for the trucks to play on. Inside the case was a couple bridges and several loose rocks to scatter around. These things are like modern stompers. 4wd, belt driven and run on 2 AAA batteries. Solid axle, massive reduction and friction shocks with decent articulation for their size. We've been laying on the living room floor, sending the trucks back and forth over the course we laid out for a couple hours now. These things are fun! I know they aren't r/c, but they ARE crawlers! LOL! So does anyone else have any of these?

Red face

I know, i had one sitting on my computer desk for about a year now, but the new ones are MUCH better now. They now come with spare belts and the screwdriver that's included is also a wheel-nut wrench to completely disassemble the trucks. Plus the suspension on the new ones is WAY softer than before, these things actually articulate much better now...

I searched back(WAY back) and found the old threads. Sorry for bringing up a dead horse... Flame away if you must...

Not r/c?

So, these are the pull-back-and-let-go friction motor type?

I have two of these that I picked up on Ebay. They are a total flashback to the days of the Stomper. The rock course is cool but you can buy them seperately for a lot cheaper and pretty much anything on the desk makes for a great course, ie, stapler, tape, dyno labeler, etc. Even my two year old daughter digs them.

LOL!! Yea, the friction motor trucks are not "comp worthy".

So, you just turn this thing on and let it rip? No control over it other than where you point it?
I'd get bored with that too fast.

Yeah it's a straight-n-forward crawler. If you want steering, you have to install the "Hand" turning mechanism

They are cool for the first 5 minutes and then the limitations set in. I have three in which i cut and shortened the belt just a tad so it wouldn't slip. The belts stretch easily. One time i just turned it on and let it go outside. About 1/2 hour later, it was stuck about 100 yards down the road.

I always end up hacking mine apart for stuff. I bought 2 long ago, one to rob the tires and whatever else from for my Overland, the other to keep like it was, that lasted oh, a week. Never even finished the overland, took it out on a test voyage with the XRM tires and it fell off the hood of a truck and broke a bunch of the chassis.

You'd have to run a belt drive like the stock trans.
