| Lance Armstrong is Arrested
11:00 PM PARIS, France -- Lance Armstrong's record setting seventh Tour de France victory, along with his entire Tour de France legacy, may be tarnished by what could turn out to be one of the greatest sports scandals of all time. Armstrong is being quizzed by French police after three banned substances were found in his South France hotel room while on vacation after winning the 2005 Tour de France. The three substances found were toothpaste, deodorant, and soap - which have been banned by French authorities for over 75 years. Armstrong's girlfriend and American rocker Sheryl Crowe is quoted as saying "we use them every day in America, so we naturally thought they'd be ok throughout Europe." Along with these three banned substances, French authorities also physically searched Armstrong himself and found several other interesting items that they have never seen before, including a backbone and balls. Interestingly enough, Tyler Hamilton was caught blood pumping, but that was quickly forgotten. I'm not a big Lance fan, but the suspicions of him are at least bound to more than the French purely hating him. His former team mate was found to have taken blood transfusions into his body to boost his red blood cell count. Lance has also done something no other human being has done, namely to win the hardest stage race in cycling 7 times and the French national treasure. He only races this one race. Frankly, he can't seem to win any other races because he's only good at team racing. He can't win this race by himself. It is a dedicated team trained to pull him, draft him, protect him, and pull back from him at critical times that allows him to survive to the mountains. His time trials are nothing spectacular by cycling standards. Kudos to him for showing the French up. Kudos for retiring and letting the sport return to its old lovable soap opera on two wheels. I've had enough of Lance. It's like winning the Superbowl, but never a regular season game. |
