opinions on my next gun I buy?

I am looking to buy a 1911 pistol.
I have always been a huge fan of the springfield armory, but at the moment they are damn near impossible to find.
I always had my sights on the GI model, but if I bought it I would change the sights and thats about it.

the other option I am looking at is a taurus pt1911
I hear nothing but bad about the taurus brand, and I have never been a fan of them either, but this particular gun seems to get nothing but excellent reviews and I am willing to give it a try. afterall they do carry a lifetime warranty!
this gun is only about $100 more than the GI version from springfield, but has all kinds of bells and whistles and should probably be priced more like $500 more than the springfield!

As for looks go I like the taurus pt1911. I don't have any experience with either of these but I like the looks. I have also liked the 1911 since the first time I saw itl.

I was in your same boat, wanted a Springfield but can't find one. Come to find out the GI model was made in a low number to begin with, combined with the spike in guy sales they disappeared quick. With the economy the way it is I couldn't justify over a grand for another Kimber, so I got a Taurus.

I have a Taurus PT1911, got a good deal on it. Its a good gun. Only thing I have done to it is replace the guide rod for a 1 piece guide rod. Next mod's will be a tighter fitting barrel bushing and a mag chute.

Upside is that the gun will take standard 1911 parts. So it can be upgraded 7 ways to Sunday.
