Default Bo knows LIPO!

Ok, so i dont know much about lipo anymore. Anybody up on the latest? I need a pack that will give constant 80 amps, and burst 120 in 11.1v with balancing jack. I would be able to get away with 100 amp bursts probably, but I would rather play it safe.

I know that I shouldnt just buy two lower capacity packs and parallel them. that is asking for trouble with lipo!

FMA's new Scorpion packs are capable of high currents, as are the cells from Apogee.

I think I'm going to pick up a 2S pack for my Slo-V tomorrow. (Don't need a high current pack for it, though )

If size doesn't matter I believe that the Thunder Power 8000mah packs will do 80A continuous.

EDIT, just looked it up, the 8000 mah Thunder Power packs do 10-12C(80-96A) continuous, and 18C burst.

all the high-discharge packs are 2P, 4P or more. Kokam makes a nice 4000 mAH brick that upon closer inspection is just two, 2000 mAH packs paralleled.

i know the guys at Castle fly with 10S4P packs (Funtana 90s) so the old bugaboo about parallelling smaller packs has gone out the window. the balancing lead has solved that issue.

with that said, i'm still a nicad/Ni-MH guy. but i sell a ton of lipos.

im not so worried about brick packs with paralleled cells, but i dont want to just buy two packs and run them in parallel.

I have been eyeing the TP 8000, but the size is a problem. I will need to split the pack up for weight balance. I shall probably just go with nimh in the end unless i can find the right lipo to fit and take the amp draw.

Running two LiPo packs in parallel is perfectly fine, if done with some caution like anything with LiPo packs. Using two TP 4000mah in parallel will also meet your current draw needs. And the weight will be split up.
