OK, I can see not wanting to take the heavy flatbed out into a field, but they sure seemed to make that a lot more complicated than it needed to be.

They originally sent just the flatbed. The hulk was at the bottom of a gully surrounded by mud and trees. The only way to get it on the flatbed would be to winch it across ~100 feet of thick mud. Guess it was wedged in there pretty good. The video only shows the tail end of the recovery. If I thought I could get past the cop I'd have filmed the whole thing, but he'd already chased us off once.
