| Jeep guys , I need some advice please
I got my wife interested in buying her a Jeep. I dont know JACK about Jeeps. This is going to be her daily driver. We are looking in the mid 1990's. What goes wrong with these things? What do I look for to be wrong ? Are the 4 cyl ok , or stick with a 6? She wants an automatic , do they make em? Only looking to spend about 6 or 7K. Thanks for any input guys |

First off, I am not a jeep guy, but I'll help anyway. you should be able to get a nice, unmolested 6cyl TJ for that price. yes they come in autos. Just keep your eyes open and you'll find something good This meets your requirements except it's a manual: http://albuquerque.craigslist.org/cto/1486784021.html |

Does she want a Wrangler? If not, and it's a DD I'd HIGHLY suggest looking at Cherokees. They are incredibly reliable. You can find some really nice 97-01 models for pretty cheap. The 4.0L 6cyl is plenty strong and the AW4 automatic in them is near bomb proof! |

I too would recommend the TJ or Cheokee. Make sure you get the 4.0 6cyl. The 4cyl's are ok but generally don't last all that long and don't have auto trannys behind them. YJ's are cheaper, but they don't ride near as nice as the TJ's if you're looking for a Wrangler.

'97 year model or later w/6cyl and auto tranny. If you are gonna wheel it at all, make sure it has the D44 ass end.

What's the budget? I got my wife a 2000 Wrangler and she LOVES it. We've always had Jeeps (I built customs for a time) If you can get a YJ on the cheap they are EASY to modify for upgrades. The TJ's are coming down in price but it's best to be in the 2000 and up years. Chances are the 97's to 99's have had upgraded parts that the factory changed in 2000. The cherokees are good wheelers and cheap plus have some extra room. Stay away from the 4's and stick with the 6's, Vortec V6's and 700r4 combos are EASY swaps too.
