You guys dont have to avoid this thread im not gonna gripe or whine about my cable or the company or yours. Im an ex service tech/current warehouse guy for mediacom and just wondered if you guys had the same issues(ie people, equip, etc) we do and maybe trade some funny storys because i know techs espescially get to see some funny and or very odd stuff.

worked for charter back in the day.

Had a service call one time where the woman had just bought a brand new LCD tv but one of her channels had some weird lines running through it. All the other tv's in the house were fine and we could find nothing wrong with the signal. We told her that it looked like it was an issue with the tuner on her tv. She disagreed so we brought in a cheapo 13" we kept in the trucks. We hooked it up and sure enough the channel looked perfect. She said, "I know thats a trick tv"..... We just looked at each other and tried not to laugh.

We later found out that she returned the TV and the new one worked great.

gotta love the new tv thats junk. my favorite jobs were old people who no matter how long you explained how things worked or how many books they had you still went back the next day because the tv wasnt on channel 3 or they didnt like that box so they put it under the bed

I was a splicer for cablevision a while back and I've seen some funny stuff, here's a few I was present for...

- We were hanging emergency power supplies on poles in a residential area. These power supplies have 6 huge gel cell car batteries in them very heavy. We had to get to a pole with an old chevelle parked under it. Owner wasn't home so we worked over the car with the bucket truck. I was on the ground prepping batteries and my buddy was taking them up. The second to last battery slipped out of his hand up on the pole and destroyed the roof of the chevelle Boss wasn't thrilled to say the least

- Working on underground vaults for a new install with some contractors helping out. One of the contractors is pounding an 8foot ground rod into the vault and its jumping out of the hole making a "bing" sound. Idiot keeps hammering....About a minute later, the ground rod shot out of the hole and a good 20 feet up...he hit a gas line! We had to get the gas co. and the fire dept to fix it

- When I first started, I wanted to see how high the bucket truck would go, So I hop in the bucket and go as high as it would go. Of course with my luck, The hydraulics failed and I was stuck in the bucket at full reach for over an hour while they fixed it

Fun times

I have little use for our contractors they have no training at all and make our lives miserable. Id probably have knocked that guy out. Around here that would have been drug tests for all(i dont do them but i dont like to sit at the docs all day either) and 3 days off unpaid till the results come back and a heck of a butt chewin. I almost forgot my favorite service call was to a lady who had called in and said all her services were out. so i rolled up and observed the electricans truck in the driveway. He was wiring her basement and had the power shutoff in the house and this lady just could not understand why that "stupid" box wouldnt work.

I am a Tech for Comcast, don't have to many funny stories other then when the bounty hunters busted in when I was going the install, other than that mostly stories about stupid people.
