Default Tennessee Flooding

We drove back home from a comp yesterday in the rain that caused all of this. The heaviest rain went just north of us on route home. We came home to 2 different family members flooded out of their homes. Joe's aunt and 12 yr old cousin had to be rescued from their home. My brother-in-law's sister home had water in it waist high. She had enough time to get her dogs and flat screen and herself and the clothes on her back. The water had drained back out by around 10PM. Of course, no flood insurance as these homes are not located anywhere near flood zones. These were all flash flooding instances.

Most places received between 6 to 10 inches of water within around 6 hrs or so. We have lots of places with overall totals so far with 10-15 inches of rain and it won't be over until Monday morning.

We saw lots of places where people have lost their livelyhoods. There were lots of beautiful tomato plants and no telling how many strawberries lost. (was a really good year for strawberries here until this storm.)

Here is a video from our local news:

Our exit to go home was just before this, so we didn't have to get into this mess:

Luckily we live on a hill and most of the area around us is a rolling hill type of terrain. If any of you have seen this on the news. All of the flooding in Franklin, TN and Nashville is all 20-30 minutes from where we live.

JIA, I hope you and your kids are safe and well. I know where you live has taken a beating as well.

No sign of it even slowing a little

It's a gully-washer for sure, but we're good. Our place is on a hill as well. Megan was beating me up yesterday - wanting to go to Nashville so she could shop at the mall even though I showed her some local flooding.

She was initially beating me up today about it, too. Just showed her the video and she decided "I just want to stay home today."

My uncle had water flowing over his concrete wall right into his basement. My shop was flooded last nite. I ran to get a wire tie for my LNC and stepped in it had about 2 inches of water standing in it.

Lots of rain over here as well. Several places on the roads coming home yesterday,we had to cross 10-12" deep water and mud from over flowed creeks and drains.

Pretty crazy how much and how fast it all came down. Got within 30 minutes of the house with very little rain....then the bottom fell out of it.

Glad you guys made it home safe.

The first pic is from a road that got washed out in Jackson, TN. Here in memphis the flash flooding was so bad that it threw a fire truck on it's side.

That's crazy. I was expecting to see the rain on my way home but after I got passed Knoxville, everything was dry. Water is a natural force that is hard to do anything with. I live about 1/4 mile from a good sized river. In the past 11 years in my house I have seen high water twice. One time it made it up to the corner of my house. Glad to hear you all made it home OK.

Wow the video is heart breaking to watch....all of those cars and that building just floating along. Oil spills in the flooding making matters even worse for the environment and the animals.

I'm glad ya'll are ok, and I sure hope the rain ends SOON with as little loss of personal possessions as possible. It's so sad that insurance companies don't automatically cover EVERY home owner against flooding. Goodness knows this could happen to anyone, anywhere, and at any time.

Ya'll stay safe and dry.
