Cool my jeep xj

'87 pretty stock now, stittin on 31s (rubs like a b.i.t.c.h lol), steering stabilizer, 2 12's, 170k miles.. also started sparying bed liner on the in side of the floor...needs some work here & there..the bodies in really good shape other than the front clip lol..going to have my dad build some bumpers, rock sliders, skids & also rear tire rack. it has a d44 rear end with an LSD & d30 front, 4.0 motor auto, ohh & its a pioneer lol. took the rear sway bar off to get some more flex. hopefully in a week or two i can buy the RC 3" lift or rustys.

right? drove in & out of that spot to! lol. havent had it off road yet to get "some real" flex shots but now that i got the 4wd fixed thats going to change, also would like to lift it before it really flexs (due to the 31s on no lift)

Sweet...now get to work.

Random tidbit of info...

My '87 Wagoneer is not a Cherokee. Mine doesn't have one thing on it that says Cherokee

If you are gonna stick with the 31's, the 3" front spacer and rear shackle lift will do just fine, be sure to get some new shocks too. Go ahead and trim the fenders as well to give you more clearance when flexing offroad.

Rusty's sometimes gets a bad rap for some of their parts, like the front coil springs which people say sag over time. I just put a barely used set of the Rusty's 3" coil springs on my XJ along with the spacer lift I already had. Need to get my rear shackles put on next so I can ditch the 2" rear blocks that the previous owner put on. Rough Country is another good company to get lift parts from, some say their suspension lifts ride too stiff but I've never had a problem with them. Plus Rough Country is usually cheaper than most other companies.

BDS or Iron Rock Offroad. I have the first and will step up to the second.
Bombproof. Save up and get their 4" long arm kit with 31s. Very capable with a stock ride feel.
OR just wait till I do and I'll sell ya my BDS 3" off my 96 cheap lol.
If it's got 2 sets of headlights, it's a Waggy!
Congrats on the new XJ. Welcome to hell

IMHO, if you're lifting your front suspension 3" or more and not giving any thought to relocation brackets at the frame end....you're not doing it right.

I don't care how many 3" lift kits on the market don't come with or have provisions for the control arms, they are skimping to keep the cost low on the kit. Don't skimp on your suspension parts. When you put that 3" spacer (or even 3" longer coil) on there and not install brackets that relocate those captures at the frame, not only does it steepen the angle of the control arms and make for a harsh ride, but also doesn't relocate your axle centerline back forward where it should be...not to mention, it really isn't true to stock geometry any longer.

This RE bracket kit is the kind of thing I am talking about:
http://www.rubiconexpress.com/Jeep/XJ/Product.aspx?folder=XJCA∂=RE9900

Even though they only recommend it with the 5.5" kit...you should still think about installing it on a 3" kit because if you read the specs of what the bracket does for relocation, it puts the axle back to it's correct position and corrects the angles to where they should be.

got some work done on it, almost ready to buy my lift im about $50 short (pretty sure im goin with RC) also bought a grill & tons of other misc. parts, havent even spent $200 on it yet.

got a rear tire rack for it cost me $18 bucks at the junkyard

also found a roll cage there for $50

also found some LCA's for $35 (got them stripped & ready to paint)

so for lift i would like to do:

RC coils with AAL kit shocks ect.
my LCA's
zj pitman arm (1" drop)
yj brake lines (3-4" longer)
5spd crossmember (3/4" tcase drop with no loss in ground clearance) or just a tcase drop kit.
home made rear BPE

what do you guys think? thanks

If you are planning to run those LCAs and wheel this thing, then you need to brace the LCA mounts....at both the axle and chassis.

A simple plate across the mount will help a lot and if you have the room, add some gussets to the outside of the mount (perpindicular to the mount).
