| My XJ Build
Whats goin on guys Newb to the forum here my buddy mike 1BadJeepBruiser recently got me hooked on RC Crawlers. I will soon be building a scale version of my XJ so I figured I'd share it with you guys. Started off With an 89 XJ Grandma Driven with 97k on it, Picked it up for $1000 definatly a score! Picked up another truck cheap that had a brand new 3.5" skyjacker kit in it, Swapped the kit over to my rig and sold off the other truck for the same price i paid! FREE lift kit! Fabbed up a homebrew roof rack out of some EMT Rolled around on some stockers for a bit wheeled it that way for awhile locally Finally got some 33's and some 06 TJ ravine wheels Cut up the perfect fenderss After Breaking about 5 DANA 35 yokes It was definatly time to step up the rear end.... Decided I as going with a ford 8.8 out of an explorer 31 spline Disc brake 4:10 gears and a limited slip which ment I also had to regear the front 30.. I got the rear all setup in the truck in about 2 hrs took if for a spin and the thing was screaming!.... Got the truck home and found that the bearings were wasteddd!... Thankfully the JY i got the rear from hooked me up with fresh timkens fo free! I rebearinged the rear and was back in business.. I drove around for awhile with mis matched gears not using 4wd until the day before my truck was supposed to be on the trailer to hit Rausch creek... I had aquired a set of used YJ 4:10s for the front 30 and took a long shot at slapping the entire carrier and pinion over with out shimming anything... Needless to say 10k miles later those gears are still holding up I also got a set of used procomp Xterrains before the trip which were a big step from bald bfgs! |

Truck worked very well first trip out ran some blues and easy blacks and she walked through it all!... Next trip to Rausch Ran mostly blacks and managed to grenade the clutches in the rear So out can the Miller and we welded the spiders up nice .. Got it all back together and what a difference I no longer need 4wd for local trails Finally manned up and bought the one ton steering kit from complete offroad and reemed the steering knuckles for one ton tie rod ends and some nice 1 1/2 .250 wall DOM tie rod and drag link PURE BEEF! Thats basically where my rig stands and its still getting better! Just ran rausch again End of june and it did very well. I beat the SNOT out of it broke a front shaft and tore the rear cover open.. thats definatly the next mod! Let me know what you guys think Good bad or whatever! |

ok cool, i am working on an 87 with 90k on it myself. the floors are good, but it's got a tiny bit of cancer here and there... nothing short of what's expected for new england. i'm not a fan of the bumper, looks like he used the bumper off a TJ. |

| No joke! I broke the shit out of some D35 axle shafts.....after I got tired of swapping them, I setup an 8.8 for my TJ and havent had an issue since! Yeah, those 8.8 covers suck.....time for one from BTF! BTW, it's time for a front locker in that XJ! |
