Default lost an axle on route 40

coming home from a week of wheeling in southern Colorado, started to smell a metallic smell, next thing I know I see my right rear wheel/tire still bolted to the axle shaft fly past me and all I see is sparks flying out the back of the jeep. Lost the wheel combo somewhere in AZ, no flipping of the jeep though. scary night. bahhh. axle shaft is from a ford 9". bummer.

Why is it nobody seems to have a video camera rolling when stuff like this happens???

Glad to hear you're ok, hope your tire/axle combo didn't kill any innocent bystanders.

I have had that happen a few times in my Jeep. When I went to a full floater 2 bearing are better than one.

This is one case where C clips are good! I always thought they were a weak idea but after I saw them in my FJ60 I kinda like em!

well after a horrible night of hell in the lovely town of kingman,AZ we are almost home. got towed back to kingman, stayed in a motel 6, rented a uhaul and a car carrier for a whopping total of 357 dollars for a one way trip home, that plus 51 for the hotel, 90 for the tow.

never found the tire, sure it either disappeared into the desert or someone found it and it'll be on craigslist soon haha.

winching it up onto the uhaul trailer was interesting, left a sweet 8 foot long gouge in the motel 6 parking lot.

I will throw some pictures up tonight.

and yeah 666, c clips would have been really nice in this situation!!

I was traveling down I-5 thru tacoma,wa and saw this old station wagon with the wheel out about 1" from the axle walking out. The guy was was just driving along like nothing was wrong It must have had a limited slip of some sorts to kep power to the other wheel--odd..
