| Flying with a handgun question.
Next Sat my boss is flying me to Texas to drive his mothers belongings back to Kentucky. I always travel with my handgun but I've never tried flying with it. Is it ok to pack it in my luggage in a lockable case? Ive tried searching but Ive found nothing so far.

You need to do several things... It needs to be EMPTY and no ammo with the firearm, (you may not even be allowed any ammo at all) then you need to disclose that you have it when you check your bag... (it won't be allowed at all in carry on) then when you are checking it they will ask to inspect it to make sure it is what you say it is, they will have you lock it and they tag it then it goes in the belly of the plane... pretty easy really. Some airlines may have a few different rules but I would call your airline and get it in writing (printed from e-mail or website) take the paper with you in case you get a new person that doesn't know the policy. Racerx is on the money with his advice. Make sure you have a locking device for the gun, and be prepared for the agent to flip out when you declare you have a handgun. When I flew to AK (this was before 9/11) they would let you care ammo in a separate checked bag, but that may have gone out the window. As for texas they probably have a gun shop in the airport, so unless you get robbed between bag check and the cab you should be OK |

If it's a .45, it's el POW! If it's a .22, it's la pew. Who makes French .22s? Le Pew. (Edit: That's French. ) I'll move on. |
