"From here, it's just another 60 feet to the top" As soon as I started watching the first thing I thought of was how much do these cat's make? Found this: Wireless Estimator says that technicians who construct and climb towers had the most dangerous profession across industries last year, at least if you're looking at the death rate per 100,000 employees. Eighteen workers died in 2006 from falling from a communications tower in a Tower Climber Deaths profession that has approximately 9,800 employees that work on elevated structures primarily for the cellular and broadcast industries - although broadband activity is increasing throughout the country and wireless internet service providers' installations are adding to the current busy workload. Last year, ISP Planet explored how much WISPs pay for such technicians (and their insurance). Climbers often charge $1,500 or more a day plus additional insurance fees; one climber notes that he bills out at $295.00 per hour. It takes some serious sack to do that for a living. |

I just got vertigo and threw up on my keyboard. Holy crap, I hope they took parachutes to get down with, cuz that's a freakin LONG two way trip if you gotta climb that thing twice. |

Back in my mid-20's I worked in the land mobile radio biz. The highest I ever free-climbed was about 100'. I'm pushing 50 now with a wife and 2 boys and there is no way I would ever do something like that now. I'm shocked that they don't have to use cable-riding lanyards system like these: http://en.capitalsafety.ca/Products/...tNumber%20DESC As for the base jumping thing how do you avoid the tower guy wires? God I miss that, back in the late 80's I climbed towers and changed bulbs, The tallest tower I ever free climbed was 1200' You start very early in the morning and climb to the top, then change all the bulbs as you work your way down. |

The other point to note is that if the top guy falls he probably takes the guy underneath him down as well. Narly1 |
