| chitty x-mas for the daughter
So we got home form Gandma's house yesterday and her cat was sick, we watched him for a couple of hours and a few calls to the vet. She and I brought him to the vet at 5pm and found out he had crystals in his urinary tract. He needed surgery costing $1000.00. needless to say we had him put down. RIP Jack |

On a positive note, we had my aunt and uncle out at our cabin for christmas. As we are standing around the fire, we hear a cat meowing like crasy. So it comes over and is very friendly, but we know it's a stray cat. People bring them out there and leave them there with nothing to eat. As it so happens, my aunt and uncle are certified to rescue animals and find them new homes. So, off the kitty went(not very happily at first LOL) in our dogs kennel to find a new home. |

For future reference, feeding cats, particularly male cats fish products will cause urine issues.

Yeah the dog and the cat were in cahoots. the cat would knock the fish food off the top of the cabnet and the dog would open it and they would share the illgotten gains. The cat also like to eat the dog food, which causes the issue too. The main reason that we had him put down was that once a cat has this issue, they are now most likely going to have it again in the future. so it wasn't just a 1 time fee of 1k, it was going to be an ongoing thing every 2 to 3 years. Our pets are part of our family as well, and this wasn't an easy decision. but for his comfort I think it was the right way to go, he was in alot of pain and this was going to happen again.

It's plain and simple, cats mouths are not built to drink much water, which means their kidneys will begin to fail over time. Sorry for your loss and it's good to hear that your kid is handling the situation well.

Had a similar problem with my "special needs kitty" , named TIMMAY. The vet had a special food that didn't make crystals. granted Timmay was only a few months old when we figured it out so it was pretty simple to fix, but the food was about $40 a bag. Sorry for your loss.
