I am posting off one of the laptops tonight.

I am right in the middle of a reinstall on my main computer rig. Moving over from a Gigabyte board to an Asus board. No problems with the GB, just wanted to run a RAID setup(which the Asus has) and the Asus has dual PCI-e x16 so I can run an SLI setup with dual video cards.

All my data just finished copying over and the RAID install floppy is ready so the actual Win7 64bit reinstall starts now.

Nice! I have been using an Asus motherboard for a while now and am pretty happy with it. However, I am partial to AMD processors for my home comp.....Intel Xeons for work!

i got this thru a tigerdirect bundle. it was either this processor, or a 3.2gHz AMD quad core. both bundles were the same price, and i WAAAAAS leanig toward the AMD, but when i went to order i, it "vanished" from their site.....

oh well, i still think ts set-up should be able to handle pretty much any CAD application, and a good bit of any games out there i decide to throw at it, especially once i get the money saved up for a decent graphics card. (i need to buld a decent basher R/C first...)

i went with the asus board because that was rated higher by customers on TD.

Yep, I buy a lot of my stuff from either TD or the Microcenter near my office. Both have excellent prices. TD sells some great barebones kits!

yeah, i love it!

for a PC with about the same specs from dell or HP would of been between 1.5-2 times as much!!! really makes you realize with those systems you are truely paying for the 2 names on them, the manufacturer, and Microsoft...

I just buy Mac's now...Better for everything except gaming, which is what consoles are for.

Looks like a decent system you have going though.

Do you happen to have your price breakdown handy? I definitely want to build my next PC, but want to keep it at about $600.

Mac is out for me unless there is some way I can run Solidworks on one.

I'll look into it there....I don't need a monitor since I have a fairly nice 20" widescreen, but my biggest hit will be the video card. Most everything I do is graphics oriented, and I'd also like a bit of an edge when flying IL-2!

Thanks Jeremy.

They sell some kits with NICE video cards. And, if you dont see what you want, call them up and see if they will allow you to swap parts out....

It's coming...shortly for native support as well as internet based for all machines, per Solidworks CEO.

Otherwise its simple VMware, Boot Camp or Paralells.

After my last desktop's power supply failled for the 2nd time, I gave up on it and went laptop only. I had built my own computers for the last 15 years, and it was actually nice to find a good pre-built laptop. Hell this thing has a larger screen than my desktop had, lol!
