Default Taking Amtrak cross country.

I live in RI and I am going to visit relatives out in Cali. I took the train to Cali before and loved it. This time I plan on taking one of my crawlers. Is there anything I should worry about, taking my crawler on the train. I just don't want to get harassed by the Amtrak police or security.

Thanks!
John

I'll ask Dad when I get home from work, he's a semi-retired railroader and just might know

Nice I do that all the time. I had a Clodbuster once that bashed all over the US. Ive taken my crawler a few different states but not many so far, I take it all the time. Good luck and be safe.

I have carried my rigs on planes before with no issues, can't imagine trains would be any different. Although, if you are of Middle Eastern descent, it might be a different story.

That's exactly what worries me.

Make sure you visit Concord Hobbytown when you are here.

Transport all batteries in a li-po sack, including TX battery.

That's why I want to see if Dad knows for sure, the rail road industry doesn't seem to have the levels of stupidity that the airline industries have when it comes "security". I would try and keep everything in one container or bag and a LiPo sack would be a great idea if you'll be using that kind of battery in the truck

Long train trips are very cool. Get in a sleeper car, got that big window. Great way to see America. Cant imagine there wouldd be a problem. The RR seems more realistic.

It's awesome. There are things you will see on a train that you wont see when taking a plane, bus or car. Once you hit the west coast the views are breath taking.

If I ever had to make a trip like that, I'd love to either drive it or go on the rails for that specific reason. I'd even take the extra time off to travel that way if needed

OK, I checked with Dad now that I'm home from work.

He's not too sure anymore, but at least until 2 years ago it wouldn't have been a problem and he's pretty sure that since cell phones, lap tops, and a variety of MP3 players use Li-Ion's, it still shouldn't be. The only reason he isn't sure is because the TSA and Homeland Security have been trying to shove their noses into regulating rail travel too and he's not sure how successful they've been in doing so to this date.

They just opened it back up so you can check firearms and ammo... I cant imagine how an rc car could be more dangerous than the drunk engineer that txting and not paying attention to the signals

Eh, truckers not bothering to stop for the train are a much bigger danger, more likely to happen

X2!

I love hitting the 1 and shooting up the coast. The scenery is great, and the road is just as good. Luck out sometimes when traffic is really light, and go flying through there at 2x the speed limit. Those curves and S turns are a blast.
