| I thought Toyotas last forever. "Rant"
Well I just got told that my 09 corolla needs a new waterpump and cv boot. Over $800 with labor, <$200 in parts alone. Car only has 60k miles on it. WTF over? I already bought the parts and will do the work myself but my other cars in the pats those parts lasted over 90k on a VW at that |

My moms 07 corolla has 160k and we haven't touched it except for oil changes, and she sucks at remembering to do them. You probably won't have to do another water pump again, if you buy a quality part.

Lasting forever isn't the same thing as never needing maintenance.

It only lasts forever if it has a straight axle in the back.

Those are both wear items. The water pump is basically a fan with a bearing....the bearings can wear out. The CV boots easily get torn...especially if you dont grease them. How can someone predict that the bearing in the pump is going to fail? I've only had them give out, then start puking out fluid. Both of these are easy to fix yourself in your driveway with basic handtools. Here are the parts: http://www.trademotion.com/partlocat...&siteid=214001 Search for "water pump" and "boot"...less than $150. BTW, my wife's '05 Corolla has only one issue....loose belt tensioner....which took me all of 10 minutes to replace, even with their crazy ass design. |

My father in law had a 78 Toyota, never did any maintenance other than add oil when it was low. He put 400,000 on it before he sold it, it was still running strong. |

I don't care WHO builds it, they are all machines and will need repairs from time to time. I've seen the gambit, same identical vehicles, one will barely need maintenance and the other is a total pile o crap. A water pump and CV are minor repairs, could be a trans or engine.
