I use windows movie maker with no problem with my GoPro files. Are you trying to pull the video off of the camera with windows movie maker or are you pulling them off of a memory card?

I dragged the file to the desktop and then try to open with Movie maker. Gives me this error The file C:\Users\****\Desktop\GOPR0008.MP4 cannot be imported because the codec required to play the file is not installed on your computer. If you have already tried to download and install the codec, close and restart Windows Movie Maker, and then try to import the file again. |

can you watch the movies in media player? Sounds like you need to figure out what codec you need and install it. Should be fine after that

I had that message when I first got my non-HD GoPro, I had to download the file as a RAW, un-edited .wmv file, then upload that file into windows movie maker in order to edit it. Gonna make some FPV vids w/ the Willys? |

Ya, trying to. This thing is kicking my a$$ right now. When you downloaded it from the cam, did you take the card out or just drag and drop the file?

I take the card out and download it to a file, then upload it to Movie Maker from there.

I downloaded directly from the GoPro into a 'My Videos' file, then I was able to drag that file into movie maker.

I had to download the the Windows "Live" Movie Maker in order to work with .mp4 files. The version that I had before would not work.

I'm not sure what version I have ( of windows movie maker), I'm still using XP w/ service pack 3. The only type of file I can't do anything with is a .MOV file, which my Kodak Playsport uses..:bangshead: (where the hell is our 'banging head' gif at???) |

I just finished the edit. Figured it out. I needed to convert it to AVI. Worked pretty well. I used MPEG Streamclip. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VHBUO...el_video_title |

| I know, I know...... Ya, I read that too, I tried it both ways, didn't matter. It is a windows thing, just doesn't like MP4. The program to convert it just changes the carrier IE from MP4 to AVI, it does not change the file at all. |

The Hd GoPro uses mp4 files and the std GoPro uses avi files. windows movie maker does not support the mp4 codec from the HD GoPro. (It does support some mp4 files but not the one from the HD GoPro.). Here is a link to the top 10 editing programs on the market with 30 day free trials. I recommend finding one that suits your needs and trying it before you buy it. editing software can get expensive and if you dont like it or cant figure it out...your out the money because you can't return it after opening it. http://video-editing-software-review.toptenreviews.com/ First check to see what file format your camera is using , then pick a software that supports it, if you dont like the way the program is layed out then just delete and try another one using the 30 day free trial until you find one that works for you.

| you and your damn fancy-pants MAC...... ( where the hell is the MSD DVD??) Darin, looks like you got it figured out. It took me for ever to realize that I needed to have music in a 'My Music' file to drag it into the movie maker. |
