sounds like a good buy.
the $7000 certainly covers all the modifications on that jeep.
at 170k miles, however, i would want to know how the engine and transmission are holding up. i would have them checked out before you buy, but if they are fine, then go for it
however, for a daily driver, you will probably get crappy gas mileage (35 inch tires and 4.56 gears). under 15mpg for sure. maybe near 10mpg?

That's not a bad deal, especially if you can haggle him down a bit. He must have somewhere around the asking price in aftermarket parts. Those Hanson bumpers are really expensive and when I looked into getting one for my truck they said they had waiting lists. Not to mention the fact that the axles already have gears, a Detroit, have been overhauled, and the rear disc conversion. I'd say go for it!

He's not willing to go any lower than 7, and that he has about 11 into by now. He also told me that I can bring anyone I want to check it out.

there are a few places id check first id check the doors make sure none of the spot welds are cracked then roll the windows up and down make sure they actually move. then check the air filter make sure there is no oil or junk in there. id just generally check for cracks and stuff good luck

yes $7000 is a good deal for what you get but buying a lifted vehicle is always fishy. And its a high milage heep. Buy a Toyota

Definately a nice trail rig, but might not be the best choice for a DD. It's gonna be slow off the line, and the mileage WILL suck. I'm getting 10.5-11mpg in my '99 w/ 4:56's and 33's. For $7000, it's not a bad deal at all, assuming the engine/ tranny are in good shape.

they aint bad off the line with any mods done... anyway you aint going nowhere fast you know that.

open and close all the doors and the BACK HATCH thats the most important thing sure fire way to tell if its been beat up bent up or just had a wheel off the ground way too often without being braced....

7000 is a lot well not a lot but its not cheap its definately worth 7 if its in 7 grand worth of shape... get it good.... if its done right and well maintained grab it if you have any doubt trust your get...

too me she looks like a beauty take her for a spin

Think he'd get $7000 as a trade in? No. Dealerships don't give you what you put into a vehicle, and why should anyone else? There's a reason he's decided to sell it, and odds are it's not only because he wants something different. Buying someone else's toy is a tricky deal; who knows what's up/wrong with it.

i have an xj and love it. however, look for oil around the air intake tube and inside the tube if you find an exsessive amount probable means the pcv set up is bad but it can also mean rings. my problem was the pcv set up $160.00 dealer item only. my xj has 278,599 miles on it and she still runs great. i would say go for it.

The only thing that is holding me back is the fact that it gets roughly 12 mpg, which sucks, it is an 1.5 hours from me, and it is a bit too "big" for me. I would prefer a 4.5" lift with 33's. I would also have to sell just about everything I own to be able to afford it. I dont know though. I may go to take a look at it, and go from there.

Heard back from him today. He says it comes with no e-brake, no rust, and the pan gasket needs to be replaced. He has also dropped the price to 6800. Now what do people think?
