Further proof that the safety systems in place in WRC vehicles are second to none.

There was another crash same jump which the guy resulted in needing surgery on his neck. According to the announcer anyway.

Probably why he said WRC vehicle not stock vehicle

Though these are GRC cars, they are slightly different than the standard WRC cars, especially the engine.

It's sad that GRC has this love of giant jumps and especially open gaps. Safety is obviously not high on their list, but pleasing the flat bill brotato fans is. Marcus Granhom was very outspoken about this style of jumps at the last GRC event.

For the qualifying and racing they did put a bridge to prevent other drivers getting caught the same way.

Reading the Youtube comments is interesting. Hopefully this makes the organizers realize their mistake, cause they sure look stupid to me.

And further proof their 24 year old engineer needs more engineering.

GRC and especially this X-games rendition is a joke. Trying to emulate Dirt3 in real life is just plain stupid. GRC is playing down to the dumbass kids and putting lives at risk in the process. The whole appeal of real rallycross events is the close racing. How many times can you watch a car go over a big jump? It's cool to see once. And half the field is eliminated by the time the race is done because of damage sustained on that same stupid jump. And the multiple restarts are annoying. And if you watch the racing, these guys don't just bump, they hammer on each other. If you watch the final heat, everyone piles into the first corner right after the start. It's like watching a club race at my local r/c track.

And seeing Gronholm get fawked up from running into a K-rail that was sticking out was just sickening. He probably would have been dead (Dale Earnhardt comes to mind) if it weren't for his head restraint.

GRC needs work I agree, but its bringing RallyCross here. Every event so far has been on 99% tarmac. Believe it or not the 2 corners at the XGames were the first time the cars even seen dirt. Euro RallyCross is a 60/40 mix of dirt and tarmac.

I'm happy its here to bring some fame to the events, but GRC needs to step up the safety and the courses need to emulate the Euro RallyCross events far more.

Wrong, lastyear there was a ton of dirt.

GRC is fawking up the sport very badly. They made this entire season except for the x-games event in the parking lot of NASCAR/F-1 races. Bad move, this sport can stand on it's own, no reason to make it a sideshow.

The metal ramp is insane, and very poorly designed.

Marcus Gronholm hit the jump, upon landing the front suspension folded pulling him into the wall, then bam, hit hits a base for a light pole that is sticking out of the k barriers, really did no one see that coming? From what I have heard he's pretty screwed up, he was unconscious for quite a while, and they had to cut the roof off of the car to get him out.

Sebastian Loeb also totaled his suspension hitting the jump, but they were able to make repairs before the race.

Wait then, they're doing it all the right way...fans watch racing for the carnage, and everyone gets excited over "the big one". I say raise that landing ramp 5 more feet for a proper head on impact.
