Over the last couple of weeks I guess since Xmas there has been a lot of newcomers to this section and crawling/scaling in general. I've noticed really spiteful comments aimed at them when they ask a genuine question, thats possibly been asked before. Yes maybe YOU've heard it before, Yes maybe YOU saw that question 2 days ago but if you don't have any positive input to give them don't read there thread and don't make negative off putting comments. Were was the datum drawn when these questions couldn't be asked, oh let me guess, the day YOU new the answer. Well thats not fair is it. You also have no idea to whom you are talking, don't assume they are 30 somethings, with internet at home, cash to burn, not a minor, you know the list goes on. Be cool Be nice don't be nasty Last edited by northernerbill; 01-18-2012 at 07:27 PM. |

Well freaking put man, were all guilty of asking questions we KNOW we could probably find if we spent a few minutes searching, but thats the fun of talking TO ACTUAL people on a forum instead of using the ol' GOOGLE option, I agree 100% on this comment thats for addressing it!

i agree man. everyone has to start somewhere and the guys that are experts in this field of rc were newbies at one point and time. as sad as it may be, rcc isnt the only place i see people being strait nasty to newcomers, they are everywhere in everything. to them it seems like if you dont know much you dont even deserve to be involved at all. we are all here for the same reason, to have fun, and expand our knowledge of this great and ever growing hobby that we all love soo much. soo be understanding of the people that dont know and maybe if you help them, someone will help you when you need it |

Good post, Bill. Good for you to put it out there. Now, on the flip side, it would be nice for newbies to acknowledge any help they've received from the "not so nasty" members. If someone spends the time to give a fair answer to a question, it would be nice to know it was received by the OP and not an exercise in futility. |

Good, valid-point Bill!!! Kind of like the guy at my LHS who thinks he knows everything about anything with a battery and tires.... There's a few around here like that. But hey that's the one you pass on the side of the road, he has a flat, it's raining, and he can't find his lugwrench..........I just wave......LOL. Last edited by ridepate; 01-18-2012 at 07:39 PM. |

Oh bill, I am so glad you opened this can of worms. First, I think people who use the "that's not fair" battle cry are people who can't make do without someone else doing things for them, or giving them things. Lazy, unprepared people scream, "that's not fair" when they miss a hand-out, don't get chosen for kickball, get passed over for the promotion, etc. How many times have you heard "Life is not fair"? Our world is becoming a bunch of socialists, willing and expecting a hand-out. Second, there is a newbie section for newbies to post in to avoid getting flamed. If a question that has been thoroughly addressed has been asked in a flammable section, we have the right to reply with such comments. You don't have to be new member and have 5 posts to post in the newbie section; I have seen seasoned veterans post a question there because they just bought a new crawler that they know nothing about. The thread that prompted you to start this one should have been started in the newbie section, flame-free. People need to be told when they do something wrong, or silly. Third, I read threads and researched for several months before I even bought my SCX-10. I pretty much new what was needed before I ever spent one cent on it. Read, read, read. Is reading still taught in public schools? What about writing/typing? I can say the search function will lead you down some crazy paths, that why I suggest reading through the thread titles. Lastly, we all have opinions, and sadly our opinions sometime high-jack a thread and nothing gets accomplished. ***For those that haven't read the Forum Rules at the top of every page, here is a section relative to our discussion: Newbie Section Last edited by btoungette; 01-18-2012 at 07:43 PM. I get tired of hearing people say search all the time as I imagine most do... BUT, fawkin SEARCH!! If you have a question it has probably been covered. I managed to build an XR without starting one thread on the subject... Its there but alot of noobies are to lazy to look for it..

Biggest problem is a newbie asking something that has been asked a hundred times before. A simple search would prevent that question from being asked the 101th time. Other than that, it's unacceptable. Unless the newbie is just being a douchebag. Then it's completely acceptable to flame the hell out of them Good luck Newbs! I have left other Internet forums because i got tired of know it all's with deep pockets who could resist the urge to post nasty comments to every question a new fella asked.. All a guy wanted to know was " will this item fit his truck" a simple yes or no would have worked but these jerks just post crap like" use the search button" or just buy Bla Bla and be done with it, stop wasting time with stock crap". Maybe a fella cant afford the other stuff.. Anyway, you get the point .. I love forums that help people. Large forums or made of lots of noob's, me being almost one of them.. Let's all just get along. Sent from my highly abused iPhone using Tapatalk |

We can see who has or has not read/accepted the forum rules. I've not come across very many that HAVE accepted our forum rules.... yourself included.... That being said, I think if everyone would actually read the forum rules, they would have a much better understanding on how RCC works. The OG's of RCC know, some of the newer guys are coming around, there is allot of sarcasm that floats around RCC. It's all in good fun, don't take it personal. Compared to a few other forums I read, RCC is EXTREMELY mild as far as flaming. Honestly, I've not seen anyone flame anyone in a long time. If anyone finds a post they feel is breaking one or more of our forum rules, you can simply report it and the moderators will deal with it. It's real simple, just hit the tattle tale button () in that post under that users name. Some people complain about the search feature. It's always worked perfectly for me. One major thing that can screw a good search up is spelling. There's a good reason some members are picky about spelling. Wen pple typ lik dis n thrd titles n posts, it screws up the searches.

Here's a helpful hint for noobs: Don't start a thread off with "I searched but couldn't find...". That is practically impossible and you are more or less begging to be harassed for it. This is a fast moving forum with thousands of topics. The chances of you having a question that hasn't been discussed before is very, very slim. Most basic questions can be answered by reading the stickies at the top of each section. Not sure if a part fits your rig? Find the sub-section for your particular model and poke around in there...do a search for the name of the part and see what comes up. If you do have to start a thread, be specific about your query. Saying "will this work on my truck" gets you nowhere. Telling us what you have and what you want to do with it (and sometimes pictures) does several things...it gives us the information we need to quickly and easily to answer the question, and it shows us that you are willing to take the time to find good results. |
