Default My REVELL model car contest build thread

I wasn't sure if I should start another thread for the build thread or not but I did anyways. As some of you guys know that I am entering a model car building contest for REVELL. You have 11 specific models to pick from so I picked up the '67 Chevelle ss 396 that I am going to build as a Pro street type build. I am stealing a super charged motor out of a '68 Corvette model kit, rear slicks I had sitting around, front tires and all 4 wheels out of an old MPC Fire Fighter old school drag car model kit, rear frame off a late '70's Camaro and some other various parts. I decided to do it Flat black and I will do my true flames on it. I have a lot of work to do on it plus other customers work I am doing at the same time. In between paint drying I will be working on the model build.

Some more pics. I cut the fender wells out but on the rear I still didn't have enough clearance for the tires so I have to modify the rear frame with another frame.

awesome!
a little trick i used to do with slicks is sand them parrallel with the tire to give them a used look. very realistic, it gets rid of that shiny plastic look they come with.(i only did the contact patch area, not the sidewalls)

cant wait to see more!

That is what I do also, but the last time I did it was attach it to the dremel and spin it on some fine sand paper.

I just ordered a Magneto style distributor with wires for it. When I get it in the body I will plumb it as well.

Here are the pics of the motor built and painted, I even got my distributor installed and wired along with a fuel line from the fuel pump to the carbs.

Cool work , man , I can't remember the last model kit I built. I used guitar string and desolder braid for fuel lines and looks great. Used to kit bash hard when I was younger. I have been trying to find a 1/8 scale Revell LA Street Chopper for a fair price for a long time now.

Looks awesome! Can't wait to see it all done. I used to take 20 ga. Copper wiring apart and wrap a single strand around a sewing needle to get throttle return springs, then used the vinyl insulation as hoses or batt. Cables. Makes me want to dig out a few of my kits. Putting solid copper wire into the insulation helps retain the shape for those pesky bends. Good luck!
