Well, I asked for it so here goes. I've built myself a trailer to haul my tuber around behind my Hilux. The question posed is this, should I finish the dovetail section like the upper deck, or should I leave it open in the center, and add ramp storage in the hole left. I've seen both ways on full scale trailers, but I just can't make up my mind. It isn't finished yet, so please don't be too critical at this point, when it's done I'll put on my fire suit and prepare for the worst. Thanks in advance [/IMG] |

guess I should clarify what I meant.I plan to finish it, just need ideas on how. Should I make it solid like the deck, or should I leave a hole in the center of the dovetail to slide the ramps into? If I build it with the ramp slot I will have to figure out a way to secure them while they are not being used, no biggie, just more work...

I'd just finish it solid like the deck. Looks nice so far.

Well, the decking is finished, and it's solid all the way. I added a couple D rings for tie downs and dug up an old set of sedan wheels. Tell me what you all think. [/IMG] [/IMG] |

Looks real good, but you mean beavertail, not dovetail Around here we take any kind of tail we can get. |

Beaver tail makes more sense, but I've always heard Dovetail? Never seen beaver tail in any heavy equipment traders, but it may be a regional thing. I'm with you though, any tails' fine with me

Fortunatly, the boots in the background are not mine, or they'd be up for sale too. Da*n things are always in the way! Thanks for the compliments too. I ran a search on ebay just for grins, got three responses for beavertail trailer and 42 for dovetail, but I still say beavertail makes more sense.

The trailer looks REALLY good. Loadmaster called ours a 38' foot with a 4' dovetail. I thought beavertails were the things you ate at the fair....
