Default New Work Truck

Started a new much more profitable job a little while ago leaving the spray foam insulation industry and moving to carpentry for a construction company.

Anyhow, the MPG's from the old Dodge were killing me at 8-10 on a good day, empty.

The old- '98 Ram 2500 V10 5sp 4x4 extended cab long bed...

So I shopped around looking at fuel efficient half tons. I wouldve like to have stayed with a heavier duty truck (3/4 or 1ton) with a diesel but theyre out of my price range. So I ended up with this '09 Silverado Z71 with a 5.3 Flexfuel, 6sp auto and 3.42 gears. Its a extended cab long bed so I still have the rear cab room for tools and the full 8ft bed for materials. I really dont have a consistant need for a 3/4 or 1 ton truck as the heaviest thing I normally carry is a load of lumber or a pallet of tile, and the heaviest regularly towed is a 4000 series Kubota tractor, all of which this truck is capable of doing. Its got a lot of bells & whistles, more than Im used to nor need. The one feature I like the most is the factory trailer brake, which I was unaware was even offered on 1/2 tons.

The new...

Nice looking truck!

If you decide to try the flex fuel capability send me a PM, and can forward you some sites to look at for finding the stuff and there is a GasBuddy like app that I put on my GS2 too.

In the midst of such important topics as ghetto baby mommas, over the counter drugs and lame motorcycles, I figured Id give you guys something equally as important to talk about and update my thread...or at least something else to mock me of.

I bought this ladder rack off of CL today for the truck. Paid $150. I knew nothing about it other than it looked good and heavy duty. I get home and check online to find out its an Adrien steel heavy duty 2" all tubular unit that retails for $850+. Needless to say Im happy.

Eh, give it time, there's a customer at work that had a GM 2500 series work truck that is around 10 years old or so and kept having trouble with the IFS breaking, so he swapped in a D60 and leaves up front........sounds like it fixed his problems

Its a WORK truck. I dont need it beefed up for offroading. Im not worried in the least about the IFS falling apart whilst driving in 2wd on the pavement on a daily basis. The only time the 4x4 will even get used will be winter or if I end up at a jobsite thats slick. I understand liking the older bodystyles, I like them too and have had several. But its nice to have something relatively newer that doesnt need constant maintainance and might leave you on the side of the road when theres work to be done.

As for scratches it got its first one yesterday while trying to get the rack on. The only last minute help I could find was a co-worker who was maybe 140lbs and "wirey". He wanted to try and lift it from the sides and put it on but couldnt hold the weight when it came time. We ended up putting a 2x4 across the tailgate and resting the front posts on that, then I climbed in the bed and lifted it by the front crossbar and he basically helped guide it onto the rails. The darn thing weighs 240lbs and I might as well have been doing it by myself. Anyhow I aint worried about the scratch because its a WORK truck. Its gonna get scratched/dinged used as such.

Don't bother filling the tank with corn. The reduced gas mileage will kill any savings at the pump.
