| Ariel Atom now available in the US
I was watching Discoveries This Week on the Science Channel, and they were doing a segment on the Ariel Atom, and it is now available in here in the United States. Here is the site http://www.arielatom.com/ |

i've seen this thing. it's one amazing piece of machinery. i really like the way you can choose otpions to make it look exactly like an f-1 car. it seems like a blast to drive but i don't really like the idea of the open cockpit. especially with the way people drive around here.

if you read the website it says that the US production models will be for racetrack use only. therefore, no need to have a windscreen.

It spanked a bike on the track. I think it was a 600, not sure of the brand.

I think you can also buy it in kit form if you do that and assemble it yourself you can actually drive it on the streets

There are a couple of videos on their site, one is the Top Gear video. Their site is kinda messed up, but I finally got into the "build your own" section. You have to sign up to get a password to do it. I built a real basic one on there for a little more than $37K. That is for the lower end engine, and regular brakes, tires and stuff like that. That seems cheap for a high performance car.

"it's so fast, it can destroy your entire face" LOL anyway, I remember reading somewhere when it first came out (origionally, not here in the US) that you could buy it as a kit, and therefore title it for the street as such..... |

nonetheless....that's pretty quick for a 'car' with less than 200 hp. EDIT: just checked out the site. there are a number of engine choices, ranging about $15k in cost and from 150-300 hp and almost as much in torque. the only question is, would the honda iVTEC motor be worth the almost $10k? A crate Honda motor and the supercharger would infact be about $10k. I said, "Oh ****!" out loud. It's here! It's the ultimate car. Other than an Exige, I don't want anything else. |

word on MNSubaru is that they've been available for a couple years, just not in large numbers. but yes, that and the exige.....1 & 2 on my list....not necessarily in that order. | |
